Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Some good hitting and baserunning here by Vientos and Soto to plate that run.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Magic numbers:1st place in the division: 302nd Wild Card spot: 253rd Wild Card spot: 19
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 That Marte at-bat had Opportunity for Jared Young written all over it, durn it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 (edited) I think that's five leadoff runners on own six inning for DET (at least 4 of 6).oe: 4 of 6. In the 5th inning the Tigers got a one out walk and in the 3rd went out 1-2-3But they got the leadoff runner on in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th. Edited September 3, 2025 by Frayed Knot
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 None of which has anything to do with his pitch count or a 'wall'. Question my choice of words, but I was right. He didn't get through the fifth.Later
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 I would have been more prone to going with Mauricio batting left handed, if I was to hit for Marte.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Man, Alonso is so good at picking low throws. He saves a lot of errors for the Mets infielders with his proficiency.

He didn't get through the fifth. It wasn't merely a choice of words, it was your stated reason for doing so.He was pulled because he was 20+ pitches in that inning in particular with two runners on and a lefty coming up, not due to some predetermined artificial constraints. And it didn't work.

Now five innings in seven w/leadoff runners on off three different pitchers. You have to be fortunate to allow only three runs beginning nearly each inning that way.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Tiger closer unavailable today. Helsley has to keep that as relevant as possible.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Who knew Helsley would be so bad?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 DFA Helsley and just cut your losses now.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 The Mets don't have to keep running Helsley out so oftenPersonally DFA
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Remind me again why Helsley was a good pickup.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 No.It is really weird how we are being asked to treat it as an established fact that Helsley's issue is tipping.Maybe he just isn't throwing good pitches.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Whatever the issue is, Helsley has been a disaster since coming to the Mets.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Helsley is just beyond awful. He needs to take Stanek's place as the reliever of last resort. It's that he keeps falling behind as everyone sits on the fastball.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Helsley looks like his head is swimming
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Remind me again why Helsley was a good pickup. Because the seasons leading up to this one he had a sub-3.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP, 5.4 H/9, and throws 100+ while still in his prime (30)It clearly hasn't worked out to date whether from tipping or something else, but it sure doesn't look like something that was knowable ahead of time.In any case, we weren't going to win this game with two runs anyway so they've got two shots to get their hitting shoes on.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 "Hells, Skip wants to see you before we board the buses."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Going with Marte ag'in'.At least he took one.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Baty - Torrens - Lindor in the 9th, and they can't hit for Torrens.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Soto is your tying run in the ninth. Alonso is your go-ahead run.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 I truly cannot believe Rafael Montero has lasted in the majors as long as he has.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Alonso is your tying run.Nimmo is the go-ahead.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Soto is your tying run in the ninth. Alonso is your go-ahead run. I like your optimism, but it is unlikely that either Soto or Alonso get an at bat.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Nimmo is your tying run.Vientos is your go-ahead.GO!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Soto just got as bad a called strike call as the Mets have gotten all year.
Elian Pena St. Lucie Mets - A SS In St. Lucie's Wednesday doubleheader, the 18-year-old shortstop went 3-for-7 with a walk and his 7th and 8th doubles. He's hitting .346/.460/.481 (.941). Also 8 steals in 9 attempts. Explore Elian Pena News >
