Congratulations to Jen Pawol, who on Saturday is slated to become MLB's first-ever female ump, regular season edition. We've had a handful of females at a time in the affiliated minors umping corps for decades, and some have even worked MLB spring-training games. It seems like this glass ceiling ceiling should have broken a long time ago, but on Saturday, Pawol is scheduled to work both ends of the Braves-Marlins doubleheader, and if the world keeps turning, she will be behind home plate for the Sunday matinee.

She has been grinding it out on minor-league fields since 2016, and is currently doing her thing in AAA, but MLB umps tend to take their vacations in August, and she got the call. With any luck, the call will soon be permanent, and hopefully not a lot of folks will be in the blast radius when Keith's head explodes.

From New Jersey, played softball (catcher) for Hofstra, and then high level amateur softball. Also umpired college softball before turning to baseball.

When she started in minor league ball in 2016 she was just the 7th female to do so. Article didn't mention how many are currently in the system.

All kidding aside, I hope she kicks ass. And I hope she takes the job of that ******* that did the Padres game.
