Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 According to Zips or Steamy or whatever projection system I used, the top Mets WAR-earning pitcher in 2025 isn't going to be Kodai Senga, who they presumably believe will either not come back to top form following an injury-laden year, or will not get enough opportunities to flourish as the Mets kid-glove him following an injury-laden year. The predictors also don't give that honor to Sean Manaea, perhaps projecting a backslide following an unexpectedly productive 2024.No, the WAR-ringest Mets 2025 pitcher, according to this system — and the seventh richest 2025 Met in terms of WARbucks — is projected to be Clay Holmes. He may have little experience as a starter, and Met fans may have little faith in the plan to convert him (or even faith that the Mets will stick with it through the season), but somebody thinks he is the man.Projection systems are but shadows and phantasms, though. The only projections I want come from the users of the Crane Pool Forum. How will Clay Holmes fare in 2025? Will he start? Will he relieve? What will his family situation look like? Will he suffer from a spider bite? Will his weight fluctuate? Will his fantasy football squad prosper? Does that beard make him look too much like Vice President Vance?I want the whole story.[FIMG=320]https://nypost.com/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2025%2F02%2F20250214_MetsST_CS003.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dallhttps://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/c_crop,w_4904,h_2758,x_0,y_139/c_fill,w_720,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto/images/ImagnImages/mmsport/inside_the_mets/01jkxsd659bz5h14ah7a.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=380]https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/c_crop,w_4904,h_2758,x_0,y_139/c_fill,w_720,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto/images/ImagnImages/mmsport/inside_the_mets/01jkxsd659bz5h14ah7a.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=350]http://res.cloudinary.com/ybmedia/image/upload/c_crop,h_513,w_912,x_0,y_0/c_fill,f_auto,h_900,q_auto,w_1600/v1/m/a/c/ac1bab819f836a6a99f9394776c278fbc3b6f5e7/01jmfzmse1980nvkym6c.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=350]https://wp.clutchpoints.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Clay-Holmes-rivals-take-after-New-York-Yankees-trade-will-catch-fans-attention.jpg?w=1200[/FIMG]
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 I'm hopeful about this guy! Put me down for 22 starts, 4.05 ERA.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 Using that measure, 27 starts, 3.74 ERALater
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 I don't think he'll be quite as mediocre as Braden Looper when Looper tried out starting, but he won't quite be the revelation Lugo was when Lugo made the transition. He had starting success in the minors, though that's going on a decade ago. 12-10, 4.02 ERA. He'll develop into the consummate #3 starter, that steady innings-eater that's always there but sometimes gets taken for granted.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2025 Posted March 3, 2025 Many things need to go well with this staff , and I fear the workload on Holmes will be telling, after a few initial good outings he will start crumbling 2-5 , 5.76 era , injured and out by July
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 5-5, 3.78, 2 saves. Starts become relief appearances after a rocky stretch, then back again. Leads the league in starts under 5.2 innings
Nick Morabito Syracuse Mets - AAA CF On Tuesday, Morabito went 2-for-4 with a walk. He also stole his 23rd and 24th bases. Explore Nick Morabito News >
