Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Ron Darling right? That’s a bit surprising. We’ve had some good ones over the years. Mike Hampton in 2000 was very good.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Hampton had the ill fortune to be pitching and fielding during a period when Greg Maddux was alive and kicking. Oddly enough, he finally won it in 2003 as Maddux' teammate in Atlanta. That may be because the world had an opportunity to compare them head-to-head on the same team, and it may be because Maddux didn't have a particularly good year on the mound, or maybe some combination of the two, but Maddux had won 13 in a row at that point and would again win the next six. in 2001, with the Rockies, Hampton handled 58 chances without an error, and still didn't win.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago It's pretty cool that we are getting ancillary benefits to our rightfielder having been a pitcher at Oklahoma State, and our top pitcher having been a position player there.
