Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 17 Posted August 17 In a press-stopping maneuver, the Mets have juggled their bench before this evening's opener with San Diego, adding infielder/outfielder Christopher Morel to the roster, while DFAing utility infielder Gabriel Arias. While the Mets hardly needed a change to the little-used sixth-infielder spot, Morel forced their hand mercilessly, hitting .321 / .382 / .716 // 1.098 with Syracuse in 123 trips the plate. No small sample size that!!
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Morel played 14 games at first for Miami this year. Played mostly left in a full season (105 games/305 PA) for Tampa in 2025; neither went particularly well. Had a decent year with the Cubs in 2023 (.821 OPS/122 OPS+)
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17 Posted August 17 OK, I'll admit to a brain fart. In another post I said that Morel was a catcher. Edgy pointed out that he has never played that position. My bad. When I checked the minor league boxes and saw "Morel, C" I mistook that "C'" for his position, not his first name. Anyhow, welcome to the team, Chris. Later
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 18 Posted August 18 We saw Morel here in Rochester a few weeks ago, and dude hit three absolute moon shots in the game. When he makes contact, the ball GOES. Problem is, he doesn't make contact all that much. He crushes offspeed stuff but you can blow fastballs right by him.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted August 18 Posted August 18 26 home runs in 2023, 21 home runs in 2024. 162-game average of 24 home runs per year. Could be one of those exciting end-of-year guys that comes and goes just like that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 18 Author Posted August 18 As a righthanded alternative to Jorge Polanco — who is hitting .097 against lefties this season even after dropping one in yesterday — there's a good chance Morel is in the lineup this evening.
