Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Our series of R&R HoF inspired thread titles leans on The Kinks to take us to Thursday's 1:10 start. OK so it's actually supposed to be partly-to-mostly cloudy today by the shores of Lake Erie but we're trying to reference good music here and not be a slave to meteorological accuracy. Nolan McLean [7 - 7, 3.29, 1.12] will face off against lefty Roster Griffin [12 - 3, 3.06, 1.12] in the series finale. This will be the 31 y/o Griffin's first start for the Guardians following three seasons in Japan before an off-season signing by the Nationals and a deadline trade brought him to Cleveland. Still a bit confused as to why the pitching starved Nats chose to deal away an arm in the midst of a good season with still a year-plus of team control left, but I guess they opted for the quantity over quality theory. Going for the sweep on the first weekend of August with a rested Nate Lavender in the pen. What could be better? whippoorwill 1
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Your Mets, once again ahead of the Giants and hot on the asses of the flagging Nationals. Please welcome to the lineup Christian Pache, in the first start of his Mets career, and welcome back Eric Wagaman, who hasn't been in the lineup card for what seems like a career's worth of games. Day off for AJ Ewing and the blisteringly hot Jorge Polanco. Stay ready, though, guys. Starting Pitcher Nolan McLean RHP 7-7, 3.29 ERA, 148 SO Lineup Francisco Lindor (S) SS Bo Bichette (R) 3B Luis Robert Jr. (R) CF Carson Benge (L) RF Francisco Alvarez (R) DH Marcus Semien (R) 2B Eric Wagaman (R) 1B Luis Torrens (R) C Cristian Pache (R) LF Starting Pitcher Foster Griffin LHP 12-3, 3.06 ERA, 116 SO Lineup Travis Bazzana (L) DH Country Roads DeLauter (L) RF José Ramírez (S) 3B Nathaniel Lowe (L) 1B Angel Martínez (S) LF Brayan Rocchio (S) SS Petey Halpin (L) CF Patrick Bailey (S) C Angel Genao (S) 2B
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Wagaman saves the lead with his glove. I had thought the Mets had forgotten he owned a glove.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 A 420-ish-foot triple from Benge and it seemed to come a little off the end of his bat.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 He also took a few photos on the way to first before turning his jets on.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 O'Jays playing on the PA during a mound visit. The O'Jays were a defining part of the Phillie Sound, but actually were originally from nearish-by Canton and named after pioneering Cleveland DJ Eddie O'Jay.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I'm all alone again. You all missed Young with a pinch-hit RBI single. Great to be a quasi-regular like Young, and when they sit you down, you make a contribution off the bench, telling the manager what you think of being left out of the lineup.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 And McLean just dug a hole and fell into it. Six to five.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Cleveland deploying two Met penners in a row with Matt Festa and Colin Holderman.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 New Mets bullpen killing it. I mean, so far, anyhow.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Really testing that new bullpen. Nate “ purple reign” Lavender gets the job done for one inning. later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I'm a squeeze play advocate, but not with the infield in.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I came in here to check what that was, half-watching on GameCast in my office. Felt weird to bunt with one out and first and third, so I assumed it was a failed squeeze.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I'm also an advocate for driving in three runs with one 0-2 swing.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Senga showing he doesn’t need five days rest between appearances. later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Isn't this something else ? Mets are in a tear
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Alvarez can hit with men on base! And if you tell me that Benge shouldn't have tried to score, Imma have words.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6 Posted August 6 This season ain't over, kids. YA GOTTA BELIEVE. We're coming all the way back.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Catching the Nats is the first order of business. Torrens wears his catching cheat-sheet arm band to the plate.
