Brewers made some plays and the Mets could not cash in in the 8th

The time to PH Soto was for Polanco in the 8th (two on/two out). He would have then stayed in the DH spot and maybe batted again if/when it went to extras. But apparently it was pre-decided that Juan was to get a full two days off.

 

 

Now in the last 10 games the Mets are 11/77 w/RiSP while 13 of their last 14 HRs are solos. Those kinds of numbers should be near impossible to sustain but they keep finding ways to sustain them. Even somewhere close to 'normal' results in either or both of those stats possibly flips their 4-6 record over the last week and a half to 6-4.

You can't blame Ewing for the good contact, but good defense coupled with smart positioning sealed the W for Milwaukee.

Also, I discussed this in another thread that both Robert and Taylor are obvious trade candidates and I was expecting both to be showcased as much as possible.  So naturally Baty was playing right.  While I think Baty could handle the position given the experience (McNeil never had a problem, Ewing is a converted second baseman, hell Lagares was a converted infielder), the need for him to play there doesn't exist right now..

Winning is clearly not a priority.  If there were shots of Soto in the dugout grabbing a bat, and pestering the manager to let him pinch-hit, that might have been something.

But if showcasing is a priority, they probably ought to send Benge, Ewing, McLean, Scott, and Thornton back down until after the deadline.

They can get their playing time, and more room is available for Operation Showroom.

I don't want this, but pretending to keep some sort of balance isn't a pretty picture.

Baty is stuck somewhere in the middle — not really being showcased for a selloff, but not really looking like a part of the team's future either.  More playing time may help allow him to change his trajectory for now.   Maybe he can get more of a foothold in one category or another with a good week. 

Dubious, but, I dunno.  If they move Bichette, though, third base becomes wide open for him once more.
