And now, when we get a break by being in the one game that only takes a three day break, I find myself feeling like the break this year wasn't nearly long enough. The Mets record might have something to do with this feeling like a short break too.

Don't agree with pulling Raley. And if this is all a setup to get Williams out there in the ninth, I don't agree with that either. I can go on and on about the things I disagree with the Mets about. But this just boggles my mind. We are playing a tough division rival in a lost season. All we can hope for is that the young players develop. What are we doing pulling our young pitcher after 79 pitches the minute things get tough. So basically we are reinforcing the early hook. And then we bitch when the pitchers can’t go deep. This organization really outthinks themselves like all the fucking time. MFS62 1

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I just saw the replay of the foul out where Alvarez was struck by the backswing and Scott ran in to catch it. If Scott can’t make that play, is the batter out due to interference? He obstructed a fielder from making a play.

He obstructed a fielder from making a play. Not interference under MLB rules. And the batter did vacate the area near the plate and in fact did not “fail to avoid a fielder who is attempting to field a batted ball” (MLB rule 6.01(a)(10)). I do understand that little leagues, high school, etc. do have some different rules about backswing interference. Centerfield 1

Certainly part of the answer is not just limiting pitches/game but in trying to reign in cumulative innings for a pitcher coming off an injury. - in his first season ('22) after being drafted, Scott threw 59 innings across two levels plus the AZ Fall League - in 2023 he totaled 88 innings across three levels. Not sure if there were missed portions in either of those seasons or if he was just being slow-rolled (or rick-rolled) - in 2024 he totaled 90 innings between 9 starts each w/Syracuse and the big club. But his season ended on 7/21 of that year and he went on to miss not just the rest of that season but all of '25 plus the first month this year - now with 60 innings under his belt this year and approx 1/3 of the season still to go, he's on pace to throw as many or more innings than he ever has following about a 21 month layoff/rehab. At least one school of thought is that it's not the number of innings that's the problem it's how big a jump over whatever you had thrown before.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago Essentially it was moved from today to yesterday. ESPN wanted a stand-alone game on an otherwise dead day for sports [post-ASG, between WC rounds, not yet training camp, etc.] and I'm sure it's in the new contract that they and MLB signed in the off-season that they get to do this every once in a while. metirish 1
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago And just to finish the autopsy on yesterday's game: - Mets took another oh-fer w/RiSP. OK it was a mere 0/6 (which beats those oh-for-double-digit days they pull sometimes). But they also only got two hits (2/11) with runners on of any kind: one a single sandwiched by two walks which was then followed by the bases-loaded/no-out-line-out DP. The other was the late Ewing double plating the only run not created by a solo HR. Oh yeah, and their 3 HRs accounted for just 3 runs. But the staff gave up 1 run on 4 hits and the pen alone got 10 outs while allowing just a BB and a solo HR. So a good night all around.
