Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 [bIGPURPLE]YUGE[/bIGPURPLE] double steal (Sac Fly in play, no GiDP)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Let's see another bounced breaking ball big boy.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Centerfielder is playing about 150 feet deep here.Let's get a game-winning hbp or walk or wild pitch.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Damn, this guy hasn't gotten a breaking ball over in two innings and Nimmo helped him out.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 G. Soto for the lefties coming up, or Diaz?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Next guy off the Mets bench looks like ... Jonah Tong?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Diaz hopefully has enough gas for another inning, if necessary. And hey, Nolan McLean is off the hook.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 There's the shutdown we needed. It's on a platter now for you: closer gone, young pitcher in, speed on the base (Marte) and coming up (Acuna, Alvarez, Mauricio ... OK, not Alvarez)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 "Álvarez is not a bunter."Every catcher should be able to bunt.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 I think every hitter (except the two bunters) have gone to 0-2 counts.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Thank you, Mr. Abrams.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Ugh, that was terrible. Alvarez's double play probably killed the best chance they had.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Keeping Diaz fresh for tomorrow burns the Mets today.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Didn't have that play on my BINGO card.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 And now we need to rely on the kindness of (ChiTown) strangers.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 It was strike three, Juan.It is time for dinner, but I may need to DFA Cedric first.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 I missed this game. But from the sound of it. The worst loss of the season. Our lead is effectively gone. If the Reds gain another game on us we're done.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 I disliked this game. I hate what the Don't Chase the Win doctrine leads a team to do to themselves. But each of the four games of the Phillies sweep were worse.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 What I meant is that our lead is effectively gone. The one game lead isn't a 1 game lead due to the tiebreaker. In essence, it's like having a half game lead. As long as we keep pace we in. If the Reds gain a game on us (over the course of the next 7). We're out.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 If managers were more committed to using their top relievers in tie games, rather than defined save situations; and if managers were more committed to using such guys for multi-inning stints, if perhaps less frequently; it would be a far more effective deployment.

It began, I think, with the formula that "Saves" = "Salary" for relievers so if a manager wasted his closer in a non-save situation, he was effectively costing him money, and showing him disrespect besides. Then came the complete psychological BS, in my opinion, saying that relief pitchers, unlike every other type of athlete in the history of athletics, needed to know exactly when they would be used in the game, and psychological hell would be unleashed if an athlete who was accustomed to pitching the 7th inning were to be put into the game in the 8th or the 6th--torment, self-doubt, and gopher balls would be the inevitable outcome.I don't think it's too old school for a manager to tell his relief staff, "You'll go into the game at any crazy moment I want you in there, and if you fuck it up, I'll send yuz back to AAA faster than you can say 'Hoyt Wilhelm'."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 Well, Diaz was already in the game yesterday, so there would have been scant addition mental trauma to sending him out for the tenth.A top reliever, most effectively deployed, would be chasing twenty wins, along with 20+ saves, and if an agent can't get him a payday out of that, he is not getting it done.
