Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2025 Posted September 19, 2025 The Diamondbacks have won the tiebreaker over the Mets. Explanation:Arizona has a 2-game lead in intradivision record with both the Mets and Arizona having 6 intradivision games remaining. In order to tie in the WC standings, Arizona would need to win exactly 2 more games than the Mets over the remaining 9. In any such tying scenario (Mets win 0, Arizona wins 2; all the way to Mets win 7, Arizona wins 9), the Mets would not have a better intradivisonal record.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2025 Posted September 19, 2025 Because of the Tiebreaker scenarios, the actual leads are actually:Reds (1GB)DBacks (1GB)Giants (4GB)So while the Giants still matter, the Reds and DBacks are the much bigger threat.Reds play the Cubs at 6:40 p.m.Shota Imanaga (3.29 ERA, 0.95 WHIP) vs. Nick Lodolo (3.30 ERA, 1.04 WHIP). Basically a coin flip.Diamondbacks vs. Phillies.Taijuan Walker (4.17 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) vs. Ryne Nelson (3.34 ERA, 1.06 WHIP). DBacks have the advantage.Giants take on LARobby Ray (3.50 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) vs. Clayton Kershaw (3.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP). Another toss up. Both have scuffled a bit lately.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Mets 80-74, with 8 games left to play. The other teams:+ 2.0 on CIN, 78-76, 8 to play (Cin has tiebreaker)+ 3.0 on ARZ, 77-77, 8 to play (tiebreaker TBD)+ 4.0 on SF, 76-78, 8 to play (Mets have tiebreaker)Would really like to see the Mets separate a little further from Cincy here, as CF sadly points out, that's really just a one game lead without the tiebreaker edge over the Reds.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Author Posted September 20, 2025 4-2 Reds batting in bottom 7If Cincy holds on it'll be their 4th straight win. Every time the Cubs tie up the game or go ahead someone on the Reds hits an immediate HR, or so it seems. They've now hit 8 round-trippers in the last 4 games including five in Friday's game and two today.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2025 Author Posted September 20, 2025 Final: Reds 6 - Cubs 3Cubs scored once in the 8th and came within a hair of tying it ... and then the Reds hit a 2R HR in bottom 8So the upshot is this: we have to play better than or equal to the Reds over the next seven games AND/OR hope for a collapse by the Padres (currently up 5-2 to CHW).If one or both of those don't come true it's no post-season for us.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 Of course the Reds keep winning. The fuckers.Mets 80-75, with 7 games left to play. The other teams:+ 1.0 on CIN, 79-76, 7 to play (Cin has tiebreaker)+ 2.0 on ARZ, 78-77, 7 to play (tiebreaker TBD)+ 4.0 on SF, 76-79, 7 to play (Mets have tiebreaker)
