I don't understand why people do stuff like this. I suspect some booze bravado was involved in this case. But why do people think this is OK just because you bought a ticket to a baseball game, or even post in a baseball forum? Why does a guy like this think this is a good thing to do?

I feel bad for Marte. Yes, he's making millions of dollars to play baseball, and fans pay a chunk of that salary. But what's the point?

Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte broke down in tears on the field Tuesday night after a heckler allegedly made comments about his late mother.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said after the 4-1 road win over the White Sox that the fan made the purported remarks during Marte's at-bat in the top of the seventh inning.

Lovullo put his arm around Marte and consoled him while on the field to make a pitching change in the bottom of the inning, and Marte continued to wipe away tears during the rest of the frame.

The fan was ejected from the game, a Diamondbacks spokesperson told the Arizona Republic.

The tragedy happened during Marte's first season with the Diamondbacks, less than a year after he had been traded to Arizona from the Mariners.

“That can't happen,” teammate Geraldo Perdomo said of the fan's alleged actions. “Everybody knows how Ketel is. He's fun. He plays the game hard. I feel bad for him. I feel mad about it.

“I hope MLB can do something with that guy. I don't know who it was, but they've got to do something. We can't continue to do that [expletive] here in MLB … he should be banned, for sure. Everybody knows Ketel lost his mom. She was the world to him.”

He should be banned from the park forever.

And the announcement should be broadcast, paid for by MLB, to tell fans how it will deal with unacceptable behavior.

Welcome to Trump's America, where people feel entitled to be as big of a fucking asshole as possible. While emulating our current head executive, of course, and all of his shitty cronies.

I'd say it's that we've finally reached the point where society is supersaturated with people who have never had to live in fear of being punched in the mouth or even getting punished for anything.

It is everywhere, and it is certainly here.

But yes, the lack of accountability that we find online has certainly allowed us to carry on without filters.

From Yahoo sports:

A 22-year-old fan was ejected and admitted that he was the one who directed the comments towards Marte, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers. The fan was "very apologetic and remorseful," per Rogers, and has since been banned indefinitely from all MLB games.

Well, both, but I meant the Pool at the time.

These lifetime bands are not actually enforced by anyone, of course. I mean, the guy's buddy can buy him a ticket and he can just go in and sit in the upper deck somewhere. It's not like you have to present ID to get into the ballpark.

So they're stupid is what I'm saying.
