If I remember correctly, the umpire also referred to Nimmo as simply "Brandon" in his explanation. I just watched the umpires on field explanation following the play, his call was as follows:



"Ruling on the field was no catch and then, by rule, Juan Soto is out for passing, so Brandon is at first."



Just seems to familiar to me.

That's a good point, too. Even if using names, it probably should be just last names. (No malice attributed, I'm sure it's just familiarity since Nimmo is a friendly guy)
