Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 It's 'Rivalry Weekend' in MLB so the first of two installments of the 'Subway Series' starts tonight at YSIII7:05, WPIX / YES / MLBNTylor Megill [3-3; 3.10; 1.25 ] vs LH Carlos Rodon [4-3; 3.29; 0.97]Yanx: 25 - 18, +81 Run Differential1B/DH Ben Rice / Paul Goldschmidt2B: lately it's been a couple rookies you've never heard of although D J Le Mahieu is just off the IL so probably more him than anyoneSS: Anthony Volpe3B: probably Oswald Peraza or LeMahieuLF: Cody Bellinger / Jasson DominguezCF: Trent GrishamRF: Aaron JudgeC: Austin WellsNot appearing in this series: 3B Oswaldo Cabrera - broken ankleRHP Marcus Stroman - knee inflammationRHP Luis Gil - lat strain2B Jazz Chisholm - oblique strainDH Giancarlo Stanton - torn tendons in both elbowsRHP Gerrit Cole - UCL surgery
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Author Posted May 16, 2025 The biggest surprise on the Yanx this year is CF Trent GrishamDrafted in the 15th round by the Brewers ten years ago, he spent four mostly full seasons with Sandy Eggo where his OPS+ was 95 but also declined every season from ages 23 to 26 (123, 106, 81, 84) until he was included with Juan Soto in the deal to the Yanx. His first season in the Bronx he slashed .190/.290/.385 in 200+ ABs for a 675 OPS or right around where he was hitting in SD. This season he's playing every day and has more or less doubled his OPS+ (177) from recent years. He's always drawn walks and had puncher's power but now he's hitting nearly .300 instead of .200 and, being a lefty in YSIII, 12 of his 14 XBHs have gone for HRs (plus 1 double & 1 triple). He's the Yanx 2025 version of Matt Carpenter (who announced his retirement just earlier this week) except younger, with a better batting average, and also brings a pretty good glove despite not being built like your typical CF (5' 10" / 221) which finally allowed the Yanx to take some mileage off of Judge's legs by moving him back to RF.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 I don't think I've ever actually looked forward to these games , i do love it when we win though , probably peak Subway Series for me was the July 2000 Shea stadium the Yankee stadium double header , there was a great vibe in the city, Clemens and Piazza in the second game really spiced up the games for a few seasons, hoping Soto can answer the boos tonight with some bombs
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 I like to watch at least one of these games on YES so I can see and hear Michael Kay. He's just simply horse-head and shoulders above all the major NYC sports guys.Soto lining 3-4 ding dongs onto the porch would be icingon the cake. I wonder if a Yank fan catches one, do theythrow it back? What will Kay say? Stayed tuned...

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 I used to look forward and enjoy these matchups. Those days I was likely watching in a bar with friends and having a good ole timeNowadays they make nervous. The Yankees haven't beaten the Mets since 2023 and I am still half filled with dreadI believe in the Predict the Mets thread I surmised Megill would go late into a game vs Skanks and throw a gem. Tonight would workI'll be watching LGM!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Author Posted May 16, 2025 I prefer when there are three (or, at most, four) SS games rather than six.Especially because us playing them six times means some other opponent is getting to play against a patsy six times.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Soto gets roundly booedAnd gets on base
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Lustily booed , walks and steals second
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Author Posted May 16, 2025 Lately, even when Megill puts up a Zero, it's more like he's surviving the inning, not commanding them..
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 The font on these road unis needs to fixed. And then they need to fix the font on the back of the Seaver statue.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 The Yankees suddenly have so few brand-identified players that they are having a Yogi Berra Bobblehead Night.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Megill really seemed to find his form that inning.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 I don't really trust Megill in my heart, but he's better than I think he is.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Yankees in tan hats with beards. It's not right.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Yuk. Shitty soft infield hits
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Yankees rallying big without any hard contact here.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 How much do the Mets burn their bullpen tonight
