bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2025 Posted April 26, 2025 That triple play is gonna stick in my craw until morning coffee...It's "water under the bridge" and "what's done is done," but I keep thinking about the Triple Play. Even if the 1B ump blew the call, the HP ump was facing the play. Why didn't he say anything? Perhaps he wasn't watching or didn't have the guts to overrule a colleague. Also, as mentioned above, the 2B ump signaled "safe," meaning the ball was in play. That told the runners they could run. Why was that call ignored? The Mets might have still lost, but if the proper decision was made, the Mets would have had AT WORST a runner on 3d with 2 outs and possibly the bases loaded and no outs. Maybe they wouldn't have scored but Irvin would have thrown more pitches and left the game earlier. It's over but it still stinks. The next time Keith talks about the "human element," I hope Gary asks about the four humans who missed an obvious call.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2025 Posted April 26, 2025 Was the field damp from earlier rain?If the field was dry, maybe that ball would have kicked up some infield dust.(sigh)Later
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2025 Posted April 26, 2025 Somebody start an IGT! Me and Lefty Jr are at the game today....
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2025 Posted April 26, 2025 (edited) Makes me wish for a new rule: each team gets ten challenges per season where they can demand that non-reviewable things (strikes/balls, ump's judgment, fair/foul. etc.) get reviewed by Chelsea, no matter how much the umps on the field wish they wouldn't.Even one challenge per season (renewable if correct, not if not) would be a huge improvement on what we have.
