I recently came across two spring training score cards from the 1970s. One is from 1975, and the other from 1977. They are gloriously low-tech and fun.

The Mets, of course, shared venerable Al Lang Field and its famous Sadecki Spot, with the Cardinals so both team's logos are on the front. I love the ad on the 1975 version for Cronk's, proudly catering the Cardinals' hospitality room.

The insides have scorecards and rosters. The 1975 game against the Cardinals looked like it has two versions of the roster glued in place, so they cared about keeping these up to date. The backs have a blank section with "Autographs" on top, then "Mail it back home" with a spot to write your address and for a 10-cent stamp.

The 1977 one, printed on slightly thicker stock, has the same layout with mostly different ads. Greyhound racing at Derby Lane must have been popular.

All that fun selling at the time for 25 cents. Good stuff!

When they and the Cards shared a complex, what was the percentage of the spring schedule that the two teams spent playing one another? 35%? 40%?

Probably not so high, but it sure seemed like it. It probably also triggered a disproportionate number of deals between the two teams, and probably meant their coaching staves hung out and golfed together.

No. The Sadecki Spot was located at Miller-Huggins Field (now Huggins-Stengel Field), in front of the old cage at or near the infield referred to here in these parts as Butterball Field.

On the other hand, "Miller-Huggins Field" was actually "Miller Huggins Field" with no hyphen, as Miller Huggins, unlike Huggins-Stengel, was actually just one guy.
