The Reds jump from the NYM fire into the ATL frying pan as they are in Georgia for a one-game make-up with the Braves tonight.

The Braves hop a flight to D.C. after that to start a series with the Nationals

The DiamondBacks start a series against Texas in the desert starting on Tuesday

Padres head to Seattle, also starting on Tuesday, so late scores on them for the next few days.

Phillies host the Rays and are currently scoreless in the 2nd inning of the opener.

And we should probably mention the Cubs who are our closest pursuer (-5.0 G) start a series vs the Dodgers

The good news for Paul Skenes is that last night he became the fourth to strike out over 150 in his rookie season.

The bad news is that the first three wound up with rather short primes in their careers: Kerry Wood, Dwight Gooden, Mark Prior

I'm missing something here. What about Herb Score, Pete Alexander, ... Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, and Jon Matlack? What about the likes of them?

Not sure. I heard that stat more than once this week.

It must have had one of those 'in the last X number of years' qualifiers attached to it.

In the Bronx, Yanx & Royals tied 2-2 heading for the 10th

Two marquee match-ups for MLB tonight: Braves/Dodgers, Yanx/Sawx ... both on Apple+

I'm sure MLB is quite happy about that. But how many eyeballs are they losing just when attention should be rising?

I don't know if there are logo'd helmets in those games but yaneverknow.

Aaron Judge hadn't HR'd in 16 days except now he just hit a GS to put the Yanx up 5-4 in the 7th after they trailed 4-0 entering the inning.

EGG-Zactly what you don't want to do with a lead: Walk, Walk, Single, Walk (1 R), Grand Slam (4 Runs)

Still 5-2 Braves, bottom 8th

Luis Arraez [[CROSSOUT]MIN, FLA[/CROSSOUT] SDP] has gone over a month (Aug 10) / 28 games / 124 plate appearances / and seen 445 pitches since his last K.

The longest K-less streaks in the expansion era belong to:

- Dave Cash, 223 PA w/the 1976 Phillies

- Nellie Fox, 185 PAs, '62 White Sox

- Bill Buckner, 184, '72 Dodgers

- Greg Gross, 173 PAs, '79-'80 Phillies

- Tony Gwynn (you knew this was coming, right?), 170, '95 Padres

I mean all them, except Gwynn, were pre-Ronald Reagan.

6-2 is your final from Georgia (Trump asked if they could just "find" five more runs for the Dodgers but apparently they could not).

Need some good news to come from the west coast later tonight.

Slightly earlier start times for our rival games on this Saturday night: 7:20 - Dodgers at Braves; 8:10 - Brewers at DBacks; and 9:05 - Padres at Giants

September records to date

NYM 9-2

ATL 6-5

SDP 6-4

ARZ 6-5

In the Yanx/Sawx game today, Gerrit Cole* opted to IW Rafael Devers with no one on and one out in the 4th inning.

The move backfired as a walk, double and single followed and the Sox scored three and went on to win 7-1

That Devers had been 13/39 with 8 HRs!! in his career against Cole was the source of the strategy.

I still think it was a bad idea.

Cole also plunked Devers in another AB which didn't make the Sox happy. Nor did the three other HBPs

* or Aaron Boone but it appeared to be Cole's call

2-0 DBacks after 2.

In the 3rd, Brewer pitcher DL Hall gets the first two hitters then goes: BB, HBP, BB, bases clearing double. 5-0

Didn't realize that the DL stood for Demonstrably Lame

Pads/Giants scoreless in the 4th

Dodgers @ Braves is the SNB game

Giants score just two runs in the entire series but pull out a 2-1 win vs Padres today

And the Brewers have reversed their early crash and currently lead the Snakes 8-5 in the 7th

SF tied it at 2-2 in the 9th. SD took a 4-2 lead in the 10th.

Oh shit, I totally missed the Tatis HR.

Serves me right for only half paying attention while doing other stuff.

Meanwhile, the Snakes have re-tied their game in the bottom of the 8th

8-8, DBacks still batting.

Brewers score two in top 10 but then give up three without even recording an out: 1B, 1B, 1B, HBP, 1B

So we lose in the 9th while the Pads and DBacks both win in the 10th.

And now the Dodgers just walked in the first run of the game in Atlanta.

And now they get an IF grounder w/bases loaded and one out but do they get two outs ... NO, they get NONE due to a sloppy flip!

Just everything turning to shit today.

So the night might not be a total loss after all as the Dodgers put up a five spot (and counting) in the top of the 9th off closer Raisel Igesies

to break a 2-2 tie. 7 - 2 LAD

Now 8 - 2 on b-t-b HRs

oe: Did I say two HRs? I meant three (b-t-b-t-B) 9-2

It all started with an IW to Ohtani ... it didn't work.
