Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Last man off the bench for the Mets, claimed by the Astros with extreme prejudice.[fimg=550]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GQ8PladWkAAQEkA.jpg:large[/fimg]
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I had no issue with him being here. He was neither good nor bad, he just was. The Mysterious Mr. Gamel had his contract selected on June 25 and was DFA'd on August 18, meaning he spent nearly two months with the club, but he appeared in just 18 games and had 23 at-bats with them. His OBP was .400 in his short stay, and he managed 9 runs on just 5 hits (in part because he had 7 walks), so he wasn't too ineffective while he was around. I won't miss him, but it was good to see his successful stint at Triple-A earned him a spot on the big league roster for a while.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2024 Author Posted August 20, 2024 Took Starling Marte's place on the roster and yielded it when Marte came back eight weeks later. He entered a game a few weeks back with his big shrubby beard, and Lunchie declared that he wasn't secure enough in his job to be rocking such a look, and damned if he didn't lose the beard a day or two later.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 In a more stable, less churn-intensive time, I could picture Gamel loitering in the shadows of the roster for the year, not bothering anybody, and getting his 120 or so ABs. As was, I had the sense he woke up every morning and checked the transaction sites to see if he was listed.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2024 Author Posted August 20, 2024 I guess outlasting DJ Stewart was a life goal crossed off.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 You guys already remembered it all. Had a dumb beard, played very sparingly. I will add he wore No. 21, that's the thing I'll probably remember best.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Very Jewish sounding name. I have no other memories of him.
