Mostly a "ha ha this is Yankee Stadium that's basically the infield" way. The double was well struck, but the two flyouts were not. He hit them hard, for Jeff, but not really. Those are fly outs everywhere, pretty much every time. I'm glad he's hitting it harder, that's a good sign, but It's only a small data point. McNeil is still a huge problem that the Mets need to address, especially if guys playing over their head, like Bader and Iglesias, revert.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 McNickle has a lot of other data points. And really, his current performance is more than a point.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 McNiblet has now got his OPS up to .700, crossing the Hubie line.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Jeff McNeil.First Half323 PA. .591 OPS. 5 HRSecond Half129 PA.923 OPS7 HRHis second half BA was .289. So even the good McNeil didn't quite get up above .300. In fact, he never got his average over .300 for any month in 2024. He'll be 33 in April of 2025 and on last year of his contract, and by then 3 years removed from his batting title.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 Yeah, I have no problem with a .289 batting average in 2024, especially attached to a .923 OPS.What that is indicative of going forward is certainly a matter of conjecture, but probably a better indicator than the same season with the splits reversed would be.
