bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 7:45 PM ET (6:45 CT), the Mets at the Cardinals for the 1st of 3 games... and I will be there. So will Sean Manaea for the Mets and Kyle Gibson for the Cardinals: https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-cardinals/2024/05/06/745182/previewhttps://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-cardinals/2024/05/06/745182/previewWill Pete get a hit? How many walks will Mets pitchers give up? How many bases will the Cardinals steal? As of 9:30 PM on Sunday, STL is a 1.5 run favorite and the O/U is 8.5.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Those three questions make a good framework.Even thought he wasn't really hitting or catching basestealers when he went down, Francisco Álvarez' backpick skills have been missed as an alternative way to keep runners honest.Among other things, though, I think we got a pretty good look today at why Mendoza has been going to Nido over Narváez so much. Bringing Nido in to pinch-hit in the top of the sixth seemed more about making a defensive swap than about the righty-lefty matchup.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Whoever wanted Alonso to take a blow gets his wish. Got to be the first time he's been healthy but out of the lineup in forever.Relatedly, it's also DJ Stewart's debut at first for the Mets.

[TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/st-louis-cardinals-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH][TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH]

=#FF5910]1=#002D72]Brandon Nimmo (L)=#FF5910]cf=#FEDB00]1=#C41E3A]José Fermín (R)=#0C2340]2b

=#FF5910]2=#002D72]Starling Marte (R)=#FF5910]rf=#FEDB00]2=#C41E3A]Willson Contreras (R)=#0C2340]c

=#FF5910]3=#002D72]Francisco Lindor (S)=#FF5910]ss=#FEDB00]3=#C41E3A]Paul Goldschmidt (R)=#0C2340]1b

=#FF5910]4=#002D72]DJ Stewart (L)=#FF5910]1b=#FEDB00]4=#C41E3A]Nolan Arenado (R)=#0C2340]3b

=#FF5910]5=#002D72]J.D. Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Bader off too so the Florida guys can go fuck alligators or whatever Florida guys do.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 I kind of have a bitter enjoyment to see Arenado and Goldschmidt off to a bad start. The Cardinals have done really well for a while now taking on guys from the Mountain Time Zone who had reached the point in their career where they wanted to get paid. And if other teams were were shy about whether those guys could hit outside of the dry air of Arizona or the thin air of Colorady, the Cardinals weren't, and they'd jump on Matt Holliday when the Mets instead invested in Jason Bay.You may make the right call on these guys, Cards, but it, um, doesn't last forever. That's not a really great own, though, is it?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 I'm sorry. It's DJ's debut in the major leagues at first.Has played 21 games there in the minors.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Seeing a Mets pitcher seems to revive Goldschmidt from any funk he happens to be in at the time.Later
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Pete will pinch hit and hit a grandslam tonight declaring the slump to be mort
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Are those hangover shades a new look for Lindor?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 And our 1st baseman gets a clutch hit!!Haven't been able to say that for a while now.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 And of course two hits sandwich a GiDP
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 With that out, Manaea's ERA is now 2.78. He's pitching like the potential All-Star he was a few years ago with the A's.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 The non-hitters are the ones hitting today.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Gary just commenting on what I was about to post which is that the uniforms are sweaty and terrible.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 How much sweat is on Nido's back? His cheap Nike uni looks purple
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 After the Nootbaar error I was hoping for hits w/RiSP.Had to settle for two productive outs w/RiSP instead. But, y'know, baby steps and all that.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Fun-scoring run-scoring outs are nothing to sneeze at.Neither is this impressive start by Manaea, with no walks through five.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Best infield arm since Shawon Dunston is high praise.I'm trying to think of guys in the interim. Omar Vizquel? Rafael Furcal? Rey-O?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 Baty got reamed on a ball called a strike; Manaea got screwed on a strike called a ball
