Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 The Mets try to bring both the funk and power as they look to lower the boom on Steeltown's finest in a matinee matchup.Luis Severino defends for the Mets against big man of steel Baily Falter, another in a long line of lefties the Mets have run up against lately. Falter has been compared to Sandy Koufax in style, with a big long stride, but lacks Koufax's velocity, relying on that long stride and a somewhat hidden release to make his 91 MPH fastball sneaky fast. We'll see.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 By the way, 60 years ago to the day, The Mets opened a new ballpark called Gabba Gabba Shea Stadium, hosting the very same Pittsburgh Pirates. The Buccos emerged victorious with the help of future Mets Bob Friend and Donn Clendenon, along with Ducky Schofield, who was at the time raising a two-year-old future Met.Yesterday's ballpark guest Jack Fisher held things close, but a ninth-inning run off of Ed Bauta was the difference.May retribution, sleeping as it has been for lo these six decades, now awaken and be ours. OURS!![FIMG=800]http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=326&font=1[/FIMG]
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Ah, yes. Bob Bailey - the first of the "bonus babies", about whom Dick Young wrote," On one hand he can't hit. On the other hand, he can't field, either".Later
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 I declare today to be a BIG GAME.I guess schedule wise. And it would be nice to finish the home stand strong before going west to face the best team in the NL.But there's nothing worse than a loss on a Wednesday Day Game, followed by an off day, then a Friday night west coast start. Feels like 3 days of no baseball and you have to dwell on your last loss.

Short!!I don't care about short!! Then why'd you ask?!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 Glad to see Cruz out there on defense. He may want to consider the NBA. Basketball contact is hard, but it's mostly above the waist.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Should Lindor continue to switch hit?Don't know
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 Yes, he should.Álvarez is doing a lot of nimble baserunning this inning.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Pete made an acrobatic stretch yesterday and now todayIt's not easy and I think he should get more credit for his defense in general

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 The forum misses Zvon's KABOOM! graphix.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 I don't think that fumble by Lindor should count as a catch.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 Bader likes to chase upstairs against lefties.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 My wife's favorite part of a Mets broadcast is when the broadcasters' manservant shows up with a tray of food or a relic from the Hall of Fame, and just stands there silently and impassively as they carry on.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 We have a Mets starter appearing in the sixth!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 Things you hear in 2024:"Stupid pitchcom went dead and I got hit with a clock violation"
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 I kept wanting to refer to Pitt starter Bailey Falter as Basil FawltyAnd now I'm wondering if reliever Hunter Stratton was intentionally named after two northeast ski resorts. The wagons coming for me is just a matter of time.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 Mets get their first two on in the sixth, and the Bucs get burned for hooking their starter again.
