What's in Store for Twenty-Four?: Omar Narváez

I was the starting catcher, and the bridge to Francisco Álvarez. But I got hurt, and the bridge had to be crossed sooner than expected. There we are on the other side of the bridge. But I'm still here. We've crossed the bridge, but we still have a bridge. I AM the bridge. What does that mean?



I don't know what it means, but it's probably a good thing. There are going to be other rivers to cross — many of them, according to Jimmy Cliff. Despite my now-backup status, ZiPS (who? I dunno) is predicting a robust 1.4 WAR from me in 2024. Combine that with the 2.6 WAR they expect from Álvarez his-own-self and that's 4 big fWAR from the catcher position. That's winning stuff, right? I mean some marginal amount of that will be earned by us at other positions, but some marginal amount will also be added by the Nidos, Austin Allens, Hayden Sengers, and/or Kevin Paradas. If you get four wins from each of the eight positions, tack that on to the 40-win baseline, and you're looking at 72 wins before you even add in contributions from pitchers and DHs. If we can pull that off, we're going to be alright, right?



But CAN I pull that off? CAN I do my share? I'm lefty hitter in a walk year, allegedly good enough for the first string but no longer with the burden of proving it, so sure, why not? But what I think matters not. What I do — and what you think about what I will do — is what we seek here.

Omar was the last player chosen in our draft the other night, anyway I'm expecting a steady hand to continue guiding Alvarez, a good pro , will do his thing when asked

He seems to have been energized by the arrival of all of his old mates from Milwaukee. He and Adrien Houser are going kick it, Cream City style.
