After a third Mets DFA on August 19, Dennis Santana got a little fed up and refused assignment to the minors. Hoping to sign with someone before September 1 roster deadlines, he declared free agency after clearing waivers on August 22, but came up empty.

Not any longer, though. On December 6, Denny signed a minor-league deal to be a minor-league Yankee.

The throat tats were something — centered around his Adam's apple. Strange enough that they were PhotoShopped out of some of his promo photos. Either that, or (probably ore likely) older, pre-tat photos were continually re-dressed in garb of his latter-day teams.

My main memory of him — and this may be partially an illusion of the throat tats — is that his neck always seemed to be out of alignment in his thumbnail shots.

Pitching is hard on the vertabrae, kids.

I'm with Frayed Knot on this one. I have no memory of him, but after reading the memories of others here (and looking him up on Baseball Reference) it doesn't appear that I missed out on much.

I thought he looked like a real pro. When he was on, he had the poise of a big league reliever. His stuff seemed to abandon him every other appearance, but otherwise, dominant.

I guess he kind of seemed like Miguel Castro, or perhaps a lot of other guys, but Miguel Castro to me.
