Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 After a third Mets DFA on August 19, Dennis Santana got a little fed up and refused assignment to the minors. Hoping to sign with someone before September 1 roster deadlines, he declared free agency after clearing waivers on August 22, but came up empty. Not any longer, though. On December 6, Denny signed a minor-league deal to be a minor-league Yankee.[fimg=390]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/04/Dennis-Santana.jpg?quality=75&strip=all[/fimg]
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 I remember thinking he was going to be a dud from the beginning and I wasn't disappointed.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 All I really remember were the throat tats. I wanna say he wore No. 65 but could be wrong (edit--right there in the pic)
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I saw him pitch in what I think was his Mets debut. He relieved Senga in Miami on April 3, got two strikeouts to end the sixth inning. I thought for a minute there we had something good.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 The throat tats were something — centered around his Adam's apple. Strange enough that they were PhotoShopped out of some of his promo photos. Either that, or (probably ore likely) older, pre-tat photos were continually re-dressed in garb of his latter-day teams. My main memory of him — and this may be partially an illusion of the throat tats — is that his neck always seemed to be out of alignment in his thumbnail shots.Pitching is hard on the vertabrae, kids.[FIMG=260]https://s22927.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/dennis-santana.jpg[/FIMG] https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2023/12/screen-shot-2023-12-11-at-9.47.34-am.png>[fimg=270]https://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/mlb/players/full/39801.png&w=350&h=254[/fimg] [fimg=165]https://b.fssta.com/uploads/application/mlb/headshots/9326.png[/fimg]
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I'm with Frayed Knot on this one. I have no memory of him, but after reading the memories of others here (and looking him up on Baseball Reference) it doesn't appear that I missed out on much.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 I thought he looked like a real pro. When he was on, he had the poise of a big league reliever. His stuff seemed to abandon him every other appearance, but otherwise, dominant.I guess he kind of seemed like Miguel Castro, or perhaps a lot of other guys, but Miguel Castro to me.
