Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Former Yankee and Cardinal, finished 2023 with the Rangers. Turns 31 in a few weeks. Had a 3.20 ERA in 188.2 innings. One of the top American starting pitchers in the free agent market. Mets have reportedly "reached out" to him. As far as I know, not related to Elizabeth Montgomery of Bewitched, but it would be cool if he was.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 I suppose this could test Carlos Metdoza's pull with former MFY peeps
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 The Yanx trading (giving up on?) him seemed to be an odd move at the time and not a whole lot clearer since. They dealt him back in '22 to StL presumably because they thought Harrison (Master) Bader was going to win them a bunch of games with his glove in CF while allowing them to move Judge back to RF. But they were thin on pitching so it smelled more line a dump than a dealing from strength kind of move.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Always thought he seemed ok, but not great. Kinda like Steven Matz. But I looked up his stats and he seems to definitely be a notch or two better. 3.68 career ERA, 1.209 career WHIP. 31 years old. Makes 30 starts a year. Solid, dependable 2/3 type starter.Of course that means he'll make a bazillion dollars.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2023 Author Posted December 1, 2023 If it will get a deal done, Steve Cohen should get Albany to change its name to "Yamamoto".
