Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 The most recent number five certainly looks like Jeff McKnight, but McKnight also played for the Mets in 1989, and the poem about number five seems to refer to a pitcher.I think I'm not following when a number is being reused for a new guy.

Well done. Every time a guy is guessed correctly, I just replace him with a new question/poem/picture. Sometimes I start a new post with the updated questions, but if multiple questions are answered in the same day, I just update the previous post, so as not to clutter this thread too much. So ignore the earlier posts in the thread, the most recent one is the one to look at for the most up-to-date questions—the numbers 1-through-5 are constantly evolving.(For Internet archivists who stumble on this thread 1,000 years from now an wonder what is going on, here are a few questions that were answered and then replaced, being edited out of earlier posts and lost to the ether forever (though technically they still exist in post form earlier in this thread, for the most part):I spent two seasons in orange and blue.but also played for 5 other teams too.Despite grand expectations, I never really hit a ton.so I spent a half a decade in "the Land of the Rising Sun."Who am I?--Originally posted by "moebarguy"--it was Roberto Petagine.Only three players in MLB history share [this] last name and all three played for the Mets at some point in their careers. Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 5 is George Stone.Yes these rhymes are weird; as is us apparently playing some other forum's games
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Author Posted November 27, 2023 Hey! It's not just "some other" forum, it's my other baseball home, and it's not from some random thread, it's a thread I lovingly started 15 years ago and have been curating (on-and-off) ever since. I was originally just going to post the questions and poems that I made on that other thread, but I decided to include everyone else's, as well. Some of the rhymes are weak, I admit. Call it artistic license. We're 15 years removed from one of them I'll be posting eventually, but I still remember it and how bad it was, but I'll still post it just to be a completionist. Anyway, it's actually not George Stone, it's the other fella involved in that trade, the one involved in an unfortunate dune buggy accident. He played just 4 games with the Mets in '69, that's why I edited the poem to say "might have received" a ring ... because I'm not convinced a guy with 4 games in would have received one. Hopefully I didn't give it away too quickly, but I think I did.
