He comes across as likable, for whatever that's worth.



I'm sixty years old. My hope is that David Stearns does a good enough job that he'll be in this position for the rest of my life.



Encouraging news about Pete. It does seem unlikely that he'll be dealt this offseason, but I suppose you can't rule out some irresistible offer.



They're not going to punt on 2024. I never thought they would. I wonder if Max Scherzer misinterpreted what they were saying to him, or if they lied to him to get him to accept the trade?



Stearns is casting a wide net in the search for a manager. It may be someone who has managed before, or it may be someone who hasn't. My hunch is it will be someone who hasn't yet turned fifty. But we'll see.



Nothing about the coaching staff. I take it that they're not all automatically gone, but that Stearns will evaluate each one on his merits and maybe some of them will come back. or maybe none of them will. The new manager will likely have a say in that as well.

They have five alternating logos — Mets, mets.com, SNY, Citi, and Citi Field, but somehow the camera angle on Stoins makes the most important one nearly invisible. The logo is plainly there when the camera is on Cohen — again, for whatever that's worth.

Good catch. I started looking at it when they were zoomed in on Stearns. I missed it on the long shots.



I had a big discussion about these at my former job and working with the Athletic Department. They had a backdrop with three alternating logos -- the college, Adidas, and the company they used to buy their uniforms. And they would use this backdrop -- along with a tablecloth with the Adidas logo and the college logo -- for signings and team photos and such. I asked them why they keep using it when it was really just an ad for the uniform company and Adidas. The response was "They gave it to us! It was free!" I explained that it really wasn't free because they were in effect giving the company an ad when they used the backdrop. So, we used the marketing budget to by them a new one with just the college logo on it.....



I liked a lot of what Stearns had to say. I noticed Cohen pivoted -- a lot -- when pushed for details, especially about how long this had been in the works.

Stearns showed his bona fides as a Millennial Mets fan by saying he grew up listening to Gary Cohen, Bob Murphy — in that order as opposed to how we older fans would reflexively list them — and Ed Coleman, who almost never gets mentioned in that context, but he worked a lot of play-by-play as Murph was scaling back.



He also appeared more relaxed than the other three executives (Porter, Scott, Eppler) introduced since Steve Cohen came along — and not nearly as smarmy as Brodie Van Handsome.



Whether any of this adds 0.1 WAR to the portfolio is another matter altogether.

Fans who are athletic may dream of playing for their favorite team, but those who aren't are more likely to dream of being the decision maker.

Stearns himself notes that he understands, intellectually, “how ridiculous this all is” -- a chance to run his childhood club, to shape it, to make it his own, maybe even to win with it.

Good for him!

“In my lifetime, my recalled lifetime, I've never experienced a Mets world championship,” he said. “There are a lot of people my age and younger who are Mets fans who are in the same boat. So our objective is pretty darn clear: It's time to end it.”

I was the same way. I was alive in 1969, but too young to appreciate it. I'm very thankful for 1986. I won't become one of those 90-year-olds you used to see at Cubs or Red Sox games who were still waiting for their first championship.
