Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Give a laurel and hardy handshake to the Mets minor league organizational award winners. These awards don't have a name, I don't think, at least not since they dropped "Sterling." But they should have a name. Or they can just retire another number or something. The Mets Minor League Player of the Year is Jett Williams. [FIMG=300]https://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/7VPCSV6Y.jpg-medium.jpeg[/FIMG]Jett was terrific at St. Lucie before jumping to Brooklyn where he became truly an elite performer, finishing his season with a week-long stint in Binghamton. Apart from his jet-like ascension in the system, he has pretty much shown it all — power, speed, versatility (splitting his seasons between shortstop and centerfield), and a truly eye-popping walk rate. Plus he has a super-cool name. The Mets second first-round pick from 2022 is still only 19, but it's hard to see his development slowing down. He could flatline in one or two areas, and still keep climbing on the speed and on-base-percentage. What a terrific pick this has so far seemed to be.[th]Tm [/th][th]Lev [/th][th]G [/th][th]PA [/th][th]AB [/th][th]R [/th][th]H [/th][th]2B [/th][th]3B [/th][th]HR [/th][th]RBI [/th][th]SB [/th][th]CS [/th][th]BB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]BA [/th][th]OBP [/th][th]SLG [/th][th]OPS [/th][th]TB [/th][th]GDP [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]SH [/th][th]SF [/th][th]IBB[/th]St. LucieA7934626151651266353266976.249.422.410.832107312040BrooklynA+361621272538927181213332.299.451.5671.0187212000BinghamtonAA6262255100210210.227.308.273.580601010Totals121534410811082281355457104118.263.425.451.876185415050Christian Scott is the Mets' organizational Pitcher of the Year.[FIMG=400]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FrNFMinXgAMDU0B?format=jpg&name=4096x4096[/FIMG]Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that "Christian Scott" is a cool enough name for a romance hero or a soap opera character, but it lacks the kinetic fearsomeness of "Jett Williams." Well, then, I think you're probably being a little shallow about this. Has Christian played across three levels in a single season like Jett? Yes he has. Does he have a particular statistic that makes your eyes pop like Jett's on-base percentage? Well, check out his strikeout-to-walk ratio. He's got the kind of walk totals that makes Bret Saberhagen elbow Pedro Martinez to point it out, and Pedro turns around and gets Bartolo Colón's attention, and suggests that they have a new member for their club. Does he have the draft pedigree that Jett Williams does? No, he doesn't. He came in the fifth round, out of The University of Florida. You know who came from The University of Florida? Pete Alonso did. Yeah, that was the second round, but let's not get stupid about this. Scott looks awesome.[th]Tm [/th][th]Lev [/th][th]W [/th][th]L [/th][th]W-L% [/th][th]ERA [/th][th]RA9 [/th][th]G [/th][th]GS [/th][th]IP [/th][th]H [/th][th]R [/th][th]ER [/th][th]HR [/th][th]BB [/th][th]IBB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]BK [/th][th]WP [/th][th]BF [/th][th]WHIP [/th][th]H9 [/th][th]HR9 [/th][th]BB9 [/th][th]SO9 [/th][th]SO/W[/th]St. LucieA01.0009.009.00112.004220003000102.00018.00.00.013.5inf.BrooklynA+101.0002.282.286623.67156604027110900.8035.70.01.510.36.75BinghamtonAA43.5712.472.47121262.00441717580775002350.8396.40.71.211.29.63Totals54.5562.572.57191987.6763252551201076103350.8566.50.51.211.08.92That's not all though. The Dominican Summer League Mets Player of the year is Jeffry Rosa. I don't want to spend another hour making tables or nothing, but you can look at his numbers https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=rosa--001jefhere. You'd better wear shades, though. That droolingly impressive .669 slugging percentage led the Florida Complex League. He had 13 doubles and 15 homers, which just isn't supposed to happen. He's probably going to either be outlawed or have his number retired at Citi Field before ever playing a game there.Did you know that there's, like, 50 teams in the DSL? Each with about 35 players at any given time. So, "Leading the League" doesn't mean "best of 750." It's more like best of 1,750.I'm completely and totally serious.Any second now, my wife is going to remind me that I need to get something done, so I'm just going to run through all of these guys. The Dominican Summer League Mets Pitcher of the year is Franklin Gomez. He's https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=gomez-006framarvelous. Catcher Hayden Senger (Binghamton) was awarded the Platinum Glove. You know he's https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=senger000haysimply marvelous because he hit .188. Brooklyn's William Lugo received the Infield Gold Glove and you know he's https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=lugo--000wilsimply marvelous. Rhylan Thomas won the earned the Outfield Gold Glove and you know he's https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=thomas000rhytruly marvelous because he won a defensive award while hitting .311 across three levels, topping the .300 mark at each.I know you're all so excited about this that your pants are around your ankles, and you don't even remember when or how this happened. But I'm going to need you to calm down. Some of these guys are still two or three days away from seeing major league action, so you're just going to have to make do until then getting your Reed Garrett groove on. In the meantime, well, think Jetly thoughts and know that I'll be there for you. [media=youtube]Rm9BTvk-7J8[/media]

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 23, 2023 Author Posted September 23, 2023 I think AFL is getting fewer top prospects. Maybe one stallion per team, and that may be a guy like Parada who is still well regarded but didn't take a step forward over the summer and maybe needs a reset. The rest are often guys who missed a good chunk of the season with injury and need to catch up, or guys who hadn't been highly regarded, but showed something this season, and their teams want to exposé them to top competition to see if whatever they showed was real.Jett deserves a liedown after the season he had.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 When not playing baseball, Rowdey Jordan sounds like someone who will be entering the bronc riding contest at the next rodeo. My daughter works with Trey McLaughlin's mother. They went to a game when Binghamton came to Hartford. I was hoping for a scouting report but Trey didn't get into the game.Later
