Cody Bellinger has had a flaming-hot July, has hit lefties torridly all season despite being a lefty himself, plays first and center and left, and has a mutual option for next year that he's totally not going to pick up his end of.

He's everybody's favorite American-born target to change teams in the next week, including a few teams currently in a worse playoff position than Cody's Cubbies (think Yankees). Most of those teams, of course, will somehow end up with Gary Sanchez. If somebody does acquire him, the Cubs will presumably have to pick up some of his buyout, but maybe not.

Since his one big HR year, he is now Brandon Nimmo-like.

But he can play first for an extended period of time.

He's from Arizona. I don't know if he has where/ where not he can be sent in his contract. But he would be a nice pickup for LF and to give Nimmo and Alonso a break.

What we would give up should be inversely proportional to the amount of money we'd have to pay him.

I suspect that any deal they make would likely be veterans for youth. Get the best young players they can for Robertson and Canha and Pham (if he's looking healthy enough). I've seen speculation that Carrasco would also have trade value, but that seems less likely.

Shortly after tonight's game ended, and possibly before, speculation online suggested Domingo German had pitched his last game as a Yankee.

Red Sox send Kiké Hernández to the Dodgers along with $2.5 million for minor-league right-handed relievers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman.

I think both teams like super-utility types, and they are good to have around for homestretches, when you may not know where your needs will arise until after the deadline.

One person will be staying put.

MLB just announced Rob Manfred had his contract extended and will be commissioner until 2029.

I'm not sure why the Mets would sell, given Cohen's wealth and his willingness -- heck, eagerness -- to spend it on payroll. What would the Mets reduce payroll-wise? A negligible amount of salary? And for what? To get back some AA chumps? Might as well ride it out. They're only seven games out and almost half the teams will make the playoffs. The schedule is very forgiving. If this were a total tear-down, where Alonso and McNeil were made available, then I'd understand, but it's not a total teardown. Raley and Pham are gonna bring back players that aren't on anybody's radar.

So he got another negative four years? I think that's about what he deserves.

I think Robertson might go to the Rays as a rental

Curtis Mead is the young hitter I would ask for

Pham probably goes

But for today the Mets likely do not know

I think they're thinking what the Mets were thinking when they dealt him — that the guy is a specimen, but he isn't really very good.

Whatever you think about what's left in Syndergaard's arm, what matters is whether he's better than the next guy for the next two months. Rosario is in his walk year, so I imagine Cleveland had already made their decision about his future with them, and Syndergaard also comes with five million Dodgerbucks.
