They really need this game

Vientos scratched Mauricio still in

I would hope they let him play everyday. He is either the goods or not the goods

Vientos may indeed be the goods or not the goods. He may also be kind of the goods, but kind of not.

But that's true of all of us.

Gloomy Gus time is over in 49 minutes.

Let's go watch Alonso and Alvarez park some baseballs onto

Lansdowne Street this weekend.

My point is you need to play them regularly to find out on any level

It's time

I don't know how regular is regular but I can think of plenty of players who played some, and then played some more, and still emerged fine. Francisco Álvarez is right there to show how it can be done — playing 50% of the time, then 60%, then 70% then 80%. Now maybe more.

Obviously, not everybody can play every day, but everybody equally is angling themselves for a chance to show what they can do.

We'll see going forward. My guess he gets in against all lefties, and steals occasional days against righties from Guillorme, McNeil, Baty, Vogebach, and Stewart, and that means perhaps six games out of 10 if he isn't going well, and eight games out of 10 if he is, and the possibility for more or less as the situation reveals itself more clearly.

If I'm the manager, I'm trying to win games.

The manager should generally be trying to win games. But it reaches the point in a season (and we aren't there yet but we are darn close) where a directive from the front office needs to supersede that. You are still trying to win games, but with the added directive that, win or lose, you need to get Alvarez, Baty, & Vientos X amount of playing time as determined by the front office so that the front office will see them play and be better educated as to the Mets holes for next year.

They're going to Fenway Park.

Nice place for a right handed power hitter to start.
