Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Got away, dealt away, snuck away under cover of darkness, FA'd themselves away, whatever.Coming up on two months and nearly 1/3 of the season in the books is maybe a good time to see how these recently departed are doing in other unis.(these stats are several days old)JdG (TEX):In what many would call totally predictable and in a predictable way, deGrom has been very successful while also being very limited: 6 starts, 30.1 IP, 19 H, 4 BB, 45 K. The 11 RA (9 ER) falls into the not predictable realm but 5 of those came in his first, and abbreviated, start so that would get diluted out by a larger sample size … if only there were a larger sample size.Chris Bassitt (TOR):10 starts, 62.1 IP, 3.01 ERA, 1.04 WHiP lead to a 5-3 record for the Jays and all those numbers were a lot better until getting beat up by Tampa in his most recent start on 5/22So a very nice season so far for a guy who had a very nice season last year.Seth Lugo (SDP):8 starts (and Zero relief appearances) 41.2 IP, 4.10 ERA, 1.37 WHIP; 3-3So the guy who always wanted to start but wasn't allowed by the Mets both for fear of his partially torn UCL and his success in an important bullpen role, found a team who would give him that chance and he's done, well OK … except that he's just been placed on the 15-day IL although with a right calf strain (while rushing to cover 1B) which, as far as I know anyway, isn't connected with his elbow ligament.Taijuan Walker (PHI):10 Starts but with a 5.79 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.H/9, BB/9 and HR/9 are all up compared to last season. Home park related possibly?James McCann (BAL):A backup to a young star who doesn't sit very often, so only 64 PA to date and an unsightly .177/.203/.306 slash line (11 for 62)Dom Smith (WAS):A respectable .267 BA but only four of his 43 hits are for XBs (3 2Bs + 1 HR)So a 91 OPS+ that's just not going to cut it as a 1B-man JD Davis (SFG):.287/.360/.497 // 796 while playing mostly full time.Michael Conforto (SFG):Just a .213 BA but is walking (.321 OBA) and hitting for power (9 HRs + 2 2Bs in 30 hits)and is playing full time after more than a year on the shelf.Jarred Kelenic (SEA):Not exactly a recent departure, but he's playing everyday now and having his first stretch of success at the ML level: .297/.350/.564 // 914 (154 OPS+) 23 of his 49 hits are XB
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Travis Jankowski has been on the injured list for three weeks with a hammy tweak, but up until that point had been playing the best ball of his career, going .309 /.382 / .412 // .793 in 77 trips to the plate for the Rangers, stealing five bases in six tries.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Carlos Correa:169 AB, 36 H, 6 HR, 14 R, .213/.302/.396/.698While I think he can improve toward his career numbers, I can't help but think a bullet was dodged here. Mets fans would not abide those numbers on this team.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Correa also has a foot injury

Mets fans would not abide those numbers on this team asWe're kind of abiding those numbers from Lindor, or at least pretty close to them [.226/.302/407 // 709] What's helping Lindor out is a better track record here rather than just arriving from out of town as Correa would be doing. But both are having the same type of season: the walks are there, the XBs are there, just not the BA.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Trevor Williams is starting for WSH. It would take a trade but it would be nice to see him back in the bullpen again.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Correa hasnt been an elite fielder for two years, now. I dont see where you wrote that you weren't considering defense. You simply wrote about Lindor's "track record". It seemed to me that you neglected, rather than purposely skipped defense.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 I neither neglected nor purposely skipped it. I was merely responding to Monk's post about Correa's slow offensive start. Defense wasn't being discussed until you decided to bring up a counter to an argument that wasn't being made.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2023 Author Posted May 27, 2023 Syndergaard got knocked around by the Rays last night (6 earned in 6) making his already not so great numbers this season a touch uglier.10 games/10 starts but less than 5 innings/outing (47.1 IP) and now an ERA of 6.27 and WHIP of 1.35And the worst part about the WHIP is that it's almost all hits: just 7 walks in those 47 innings but 57 hits ... Ouch!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 The one-year contract model hasn't been his friend.
