bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 (edited) Trevor Williams goes for the Mets against Zach Wheeler for the Phillies at 1 PM ET. Kyle Schwarber has hit 4 HRs off Williams. Trevor has not started against PHI this season but pitched two scoreless innings in relief on August 14. Wheeler got his ass kicked by the Mets last weekend, giving up 6 runs. I wrote something that was factually inaccurate in my thread starter for last night's game (that I have edited) which tells me that either you are too polite to correct me, and we know that's not true, or you don't read the comments. The Phillie Phanatic is like a hack comic doing the same tired, obvious act for years. He's the Gallagher of mascots because we once thought that the watermelon smashing was funny but after a few years, you need to do something else. Gallagher is still smashing watermelons and the Phanatic is still smashing helmets. Mr. Met is the finest mascot in sports, a class act who improves every year. The Phillie Phanatic is a giant, green, POS.https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-phillies/2022/08/20/661628#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=661628https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-phillies/2022/08/20/661628#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=661628 Edited August 19, 2022 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I like the Phanatic. He always pays his gambling debts quickly, holds his liquor, and whenever I arrive in Philly, there's a new restaurant he'll take me to and he never misses.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I thought the Phanatic's Keith Hernandez doll/effigy was pretty funny actually.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 I'm phine with Phanatic, but I bet he can't bring it on trumpet like Mr. Met.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Michael Perez is not about to give you the chance to miss him.The Phils also start their lefthanded backup catcher in game one, and that increases the German-American factor in their lineup to six.

[TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/philadelphia-phillies-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH][TH]#[/TH][TH]Player[/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH]

=#FF5910]1=#002D72]Brandon Nimmo (L)=#FF5910]cf=#002D72]1=#E81828]Kyle Schwarber (L)=#002D72]dh

=#FF5910]2=#002D72]Starling Marte (R)=#FF5910]rf=#002D72]2=#E81828]Rhys Hoskins (R)=#002D72]1b

=#FF5910]3=#002D72]Francisco Lindor (S)=#FF5910]ss=#002D72]3=#E81828]Alec Bohm (R)=#002D72]3b

=#FF5910]4=#002D72]Pete Alonso (R)=#FF5910]1b=#002D72]4=#E81828]Nick Castellanos (R)=#002D72]rf

=#FF5910]5=#002D72]Daniel Vogelbach (L)=#FF5910]dh=#002D72]5=#E81828]Bryson Stott (L)=#002D72]ss

=#FF5910]6=#002D72]Jeff McNeil (L)=#FF5910]2b=#002D72]6=#E81828]Jean Segura (R)=#002D72]2b

=#FF5910]7=#002D72]Tyler Naquin (L)=#FF5910]lf=#002D72]7=#E81828]Garrett Stubbs (L)=#002D72]c

=#FF5910]8=#002D72]Brett Baty (L)=#FF5910]3b=#002D72]8=#E81828]Matt Vierling (R)=#002D72]lf

=#FF5910]9=#002D72]Michael Perez (L)=#FF5910]c=#002D72]9=#E81828]Bradley Zimmer (L)=#002D72]cf

[TH][/TH][TH]Pitcher[/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH]Pitcher[/TH][TH][/TH]

=#FF5910]=#002D72]Trevor Williams (R)=#FF5910]sp=#002D72]=#E81828]Zack Wheeler (R)=#002D72]sp

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Damn. 0/5 with 5 K's and they run Naquin right back out there the next day.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 I was at Frank Taveras's five-strikeout game in 1979. He madeit up to me by stealing three bases in the Dave Kingman 3-HR (as a Cub) game later that same season.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Hey, Rhys Hoskins, none out of none umpires would have called that a ball.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Eight straight AB's ending with a K for Naquin. Anyone know the team record for consecutive whiffs?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Mets enter the hit column on an infield roller by Marte in the fourth. He can run when he wants to.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 What a gift from whoever put the second/home double-steal in the Phillies' playbook.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Good play. Very smart by Lindor to go home to ensure the run didn't score. But Perez: don't argue with the umpire. Just go over and tag him again!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 What a gift from whoever decided to challenge the call for the Phillies. If Perez had missed the tag, how do you reset the game-play? Clearly he had all the time in the world to re-tag the runner who flew well past the plate, but didn't see the need after getting the out call from blue.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Me: It's gotta be the 7th inning by now... WHAT?
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Chasing Zack is huge, he's been en fuego at home this season.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Good news - Naquin finally hits the ballBad news - he makes an out.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Looks like we're going to try and bucket-brigade it through the bullpen all day. Also looks like Brett Baty doesn't have David Wright's popup-catching skillz. McNeil does, and more, though, and the Mets get out of the inning with only one run home.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Shall we show them how to do the second/home double-steal again?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Maybe Cora was too conservative there.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 I hope that failure to bring home tack-on runs doesn't bite them in the butt.Later
