I can't really see how that profile is worthy of a major league deal, but then I realized that a year ago (almost exactly), the team signed Sam McWilliams to major league deal despite little experience (and no success) above AA. This guy may be the offensive version of that — a guy on the minor league free agent market without a successful track record, but has been identified as ready to turn a corner.



McWilliams ended up DFA'd and claimed by San Diego, but perhaps this is a market angle the Mets focus on.

When I saw the title of the thread, I thought they'd resurrected the managerial career of Bill Plummer.



But, if his career minor league avg. is .221 and he hit .280 last year, maybe he did turn the corner.

Plummer greatly improved his walk and strikeout rates in 2021 while also finding a bit of a power stroke, clubbing 15 home runs on the season. He was named the team's minor league Player of the Month for July, and his drastic improvement and former top-prospect pedigree make it questionable why the Cardinals cut bait with him, but they're clearly skeptical that he's for real.

Looks like there might be something there. Worth a flyer at least, and hell, if they're rebuilding he's probably fine to man a corner for a few years.

Plummer, 25, was the 23rd overall pick in 2015, and didn't put up impressive numbers in the minor leagues for his first few years. He had good speed as an outfielder, but the bat never really developed. He wasn't on my radar as a notable Cardinals prospect over the last couple years. After the pandemic shutdown, though, he crushed at Double-A earlier this year, and got the bump to Triple-A to finish the season … where he hit even better: Of particular note there, the walk and strikeout rate improvements this season – particularly at Triple-A to finish the year – stand way out, with a step forward in his power, too. That's the trajectory of a guy, particularly one with former top prospect pedigree, that you simply don't see NOT added to the 40-man roster at this point in his career.

So, if and when he appears for the Mets, he becomes a potential answer in the First-Rounder Kwiz.

He has all 3 option years still which is a valuable thing in roster construction. The only thing this really cost the Mets was a 40 man roster spot.
