G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 No rat. No raccoon. But there is a Puma. The tension had been building for at least 2 ½ weeks between Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil when it reached a boiling point on May 7 in the tunnel that connects the Mets dugout to the clubhouse at Citi Field.Details weren't divulged by the players involved or organization at the time, but The Post has learned the specifics of what transpired in the “Rat/Raccoon” altercation from that night. The shortstop Lindor, frustrated by the second baseman's latest positioning gaffe and their ensuing argument, according to a club source, grabbed McNeil by the throat and pinned him against a wall in the tunnel. Before the situation could escalate, Mets players hearing the commotion arrived to break it up.After the Mets beat Arizona 5-4 in a walk-off, neither Lindor nor McNeil would acknowledge the altercation other than to say an animal had been spotted in the tunnel and the two players were arguing over whether it was a rat or raccoon, prompting Mets players to the scene.https://nypost.com/2021/11/03/francisco-lindor-grabbed-jeff-mcneil-by-throat-during-mets-spat/https://nypost.com/2021/11/03/francisco-lindor-grabbed-jeff-mcneil-by-throat-during-mets-spat/
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Wow, Mr. Smile grabbed McNeil by the throat? Yikes!I wonder who decided that a rat/raccoon argument made for a plausible cover story?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 the story 5 months in the making. SO ENLIGHTENING! it gives a few details to things we basically already knew! Go further and tell me if the front office purposely moved McNeil away from 2nd, got Javy instead of OF help and then played McNeil in the OF over Davis all because of this nonsense? THAT would be the story. The Atlanta teams thanks them for it though.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I still say McSquirrelface was overheard making fun of Lindy's Mama'sFamily hairdo one too many times and then things boiled over.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 I'll never get this bitter criticism of a reporter for successfully sussing out a meaningful fact about the subject of his beat.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 'meaningful fact' or 'trivial detail' MONTHS after the incident. This is also after the childish behavior by similar reporters (I don't remember if Puma was one of them at the time) absolutely just disrespectfully harassing players for more details they'd already declined to want to talk about, all while very salient questions about like, the game or THE NEXT DAY'S STARTING PITCHER went unasked. I just ask that they guys respect the players. No means no. This is why they shouldn't be allowed in the clubhouse.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 At first glance it took me a few seconds to realize who Jerry was. I didn'tknow until just NOW!! that his nickname is/was Gordo.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 You guys are talking about how Jerry Blevins looks as if Anthony Recker isn't just sitting there.Just sitting there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2021 Posted November 4, 2021 Well, maybe we'd be talking about Recker if he too was wearing a Lois Lane wig.
