Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 To Rojas' credit, he stopped playing Smith. Sure, Smith did miss 3 games on the bereavement list, but in total he has 4 PA in the last 12 days. And while I agree that Pillar is not good, unless you seriously want to suggest Conforto in center (and I don't think you are doing that), there aren't better options that Pillar in the lineup. So again, it's really just Davis in for McNeil. I can get behind that, or at least as a platoon.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 I am in fact suggesting Conforto for center. It's not ideal, and you'd want to bring Pillar defensively later in the game, but for a team that NEEDS more offense, you can't just not play Davis. they don't have that luxury. Of course with Nimmo out, you need TWO non-Conforto outfielders anyway. So we're probably stuck with Pillar, but Davis needs to be in there way more than he has been. Rojas had been liberally sitting Conforto too, which ain't great, unless there's something we don't know (lingering Covid fatigue or something)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Another option is Villar for center, opening up third for Davis or whoev.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 I am reminded that for a time in 2007, the Mets had Carlos Gomez, Carlos Beltran, and Endy Chavez all starting in the same outfield; it was probably the greatest defensive starting outfield in the history of the Mets.Would Davis - Conforto - McNeil be the worst?
