Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 He's now racked up 357 PA with an OPS of .711. Basically a light-hitting SS without the defense. No signs of snapping out of it. You wonder if the small sample sizes in 2019 and 2020 were a mirage. Or maybe he's one of those guys that needed a juiced ball. There's talk of where to put Bryant if they get him. I'd be inclined to give him Dom's time over JD.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 They've brought up on the telecast that he's hitting off-speed pitches at a much worse rate than he did the last two seasons. I guess the question is why. I suppose it's fair to ask if Chili Davis had something to do with it, but I can't imagine the new guy would tell him to change an approach that worked for him. It's possible that he's playing with a nagging injury. It took McNeil half a season to look healthy despite a couple of IL stints, and Conforto's not all the way back yet either, so maybe he's dealing with something that hasn't reached the point of shelving him but it's affected his play.Which is all a long-winded way of saying I have some guesses but no firm answer.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 This is a trick to get him going, Curtis Granderson-style, and I am all in favor of it because Dom is my current Favorite Active Met.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Dom looks less high than in prior years, maybe needs to wake-and-bake more?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Oh, no, his sleepy eyes mostly disappeared before he caught fire two years ago.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 I suspect that Conforto may have been a better target for this thread.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Or Taijuan Walker.Walker and Stroman were two of the biggest downticks after MLB started enforcing the "sticky shit rules". Stroman may have been a blip on the radar but Walker's downturn is looking real. His last 4 starts include 15 innings, 11 walks, and 8 Ks. even if you remove that .1 inning disaster its 3 starts, 14.2 innings, 7 walks, 8 ks. ouch.
