LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 This steal 1-3 runs-and-hold-them thing might work, if we can supplement the defense even more. (Which, frankly, might be the only way to upgrade without giving up real talent.)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 I'm not sure we can know with any certainty whether giving up Pedro Quintana wasn't giving up "real" talent. That said, I'm fine with improving defensively as fallback strategy for the time being.I'd just appreciate it if these plan C guys could supplement their defense with hitting and bunting against the shift and not swinging 3-0 when losing by three late in the game with no one on base. It'd be a shame if this pitching didn't produce a playoff team no matter who you have swinging the bat.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Sure took a long time, but they finally got Zeke into a lineup.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Walking two guys to start the game may be a bad omen, but at least Lucchesi's working at sub-Trachselian speed, to boot
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 They have to keep showing that one bearded jackass yelling every time Lindor does anything good or bad on SNY? Is he the hairy idiot guardian angel or something?
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Whoever he is, he should've yelled harder at McKinney and Dom.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Conner Kok-Wy JoeThat's a heckuva handle.Where did you come from, where did you come goWhere did you come from Cotton Wy Joe?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Much better inning for Pal Joey. But he's approaching his 43-pitch limit.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 I had a year in the Rockville Centre Soccer Club where I was on a team that tied every game. We were at 0-0-8 and our propensity to draw had become an accepted absurdity. If one team led in the final minute, we knew the equalizer was pre-fated.Then, in Game Nine, we went up against the powder blue team. My classmate Gary lined up across from me and said, "You guys are going to win.""We don't ever win.""Trust me," Gary said, "today you're going to win."The ref started counting players and announced that Gary's team was two players short. "My cousin James is here," I said, "He can play with you."James was two years younger, not old enough to play at this level on any roster. He wasn't a bad athlete. He was a strong and smart defender, but soccer wasn't his game. And he'd be a ten-year-old playing with 12-year-olds or something. But that's where it gets funny. James suited up, and even as we quickly went up 3-0 on Gary's (indeed terrible) team, it became clear that James suddenly had the best skills on the squad. He had never dominated at any level before, but they quickly bumped him up from fullback to striker. He started getting the hint that it was less-than-useful for him to pass, so he started taking on all comers, 1-on-3 or something, having the time of his life getting a couple of shots on goal off. The Powder Blues played along, quickly switching to a strategy of Get-the-Ball-to-James-and-Get-out-of-His Way. He was an utterly mediocre player playing in a division over his head, and they were acting like they just acquired Pelé. So was he. Ultimately he scored the only tally as we ended our tie purgatory with a 9-1 win. I feel like this is more or less the mentality going on with Mets when they fill out the lineup card. "Let's bat McKinney third." "Is he good?" "He's new." "But is he good?" "Listen, he's new. Do you want me to run through the other options we've seen to date?" "No need. Looks like we've got a number-three hitter."
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 (edited) I'm surprised SNY hasn't thrown up a picture of big Ted Kluszewski amid all this discussion of sleeveless uniforms.[FIMG=300]http://sabr.org/sites/default/files/images/KluszewskiTed-1957Topps.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=450]https://alchetron.com/cdn/ted-kluszewski-f57c44f1-7965-41d9-bfc6-584691cd960-resize-750.jpg[/FIMG] Edited May 27, 2021 by Guest
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 I hate the word "churve." It's a curveball that is thrown slow. Call it a damn curveball.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Author Posted May 27, 2021 Seems that term crept in not too long ago not sure when where or why. It's a slow curve.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 It's pretty specific to just to the pitch Lucchessi throws.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 McKinney playing a pretty nice RF so far
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 It's a changeup grip with a curve's snap, I think.Lucchesi is starting get hookmarks in his body.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 A GIDP won't turn the trick here so we might have to get an actual hit to break the tie.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Bases loaded. Six straight balls. Zeke chases one out of the zone.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Zeke K's on three pitches none of which were in the strike zone.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 I was thinking we might want to pinch run Lee for Smith. And then I saw Smith running, and I'm thinking we really ought to have pinch-run Lee for Smith.

LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Why exactly did we bring in the lefty to pitch to the lefty-killing lineup?
