MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Dizzy Dean mangled the English language. His most memorable quote was "Zarilla slud into third".Dave Campbell had a minor league season during which he hit 20 HR and had 36 RBI. That made me sure the Mets would try to acquire him. I'm guessing Buddy Blatner gets in, Buck? And is Al Michaels really remembered as a baseball announcer?Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Michaels did both the Reds & Giants locally in addition to his work on national games.

For some reason Michaels' call of the play that ended the 1972 NLCS (George Foster scoring on a Bob Moose wild pitch) was in heavy rotation for WFAN's “great sports moments call bumpers” they ran in their early days.I mean it was a great call, but it was a local Cincy broadcast call airing on a New York radio station!
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Hawk Harrelson was one of the worst baseball announcers, like, ever.
