It's 1982 all over again. Mets 1982. Riveting, huh? Airplanes flying over Shea beware because big George Foster is a-comin'. Joel Youngblood gets traded mid-game. Pete Falcone and Rusty Staub combine to snap a Mets 15 game losing streak. The debut of the racing stripes (roads only). And the Mets turn their first triple play since 1966.

Some maniac had his VCR working all year, that 1982, taping snippets here and there of this and that. Marv Alert. Warner Wolf. And Ralph Kiner. It's a coupl'a hours of Mets "highlights" from 1982.

Let me know if anyone finds Gary Rajisch's tremendous outfield catch. 'Cause I only skimmed this vid for about five minutes.

Ya know, the mayor of my town is in a band and sings this so well.

Every time I'm somewhere that he's playing I ask his wife if they are singing it and she just smiles at me

And then they get out that fiddle

There's an awesome game with the Padres starting about 21:30. Rusty ties the game late with a pinch hit down the right field line. The ball gets interfered with and there's controversy over whether to give the runner (Brooks) two bases or three (which would bring in the go-ahead run). Zabriskie (I think) briefly pitches the idea that the umps should place Staub on third.

Steve, Rusty wasn't getting anywhere near third, and it's far from a sure thing that he'd've ended up on second.

Anyhow, a sweet game featuring a start by Brent Gaff, late heroics by Bambi's Bandits, and an hilarious Tri-Honda Mets commercial set to "Help Me, Rhonda."

2:35:55 - The Mets turn their second triple play of the season and then, Brian Giles with a full extension all-out defensive gem as good as you'll ever see.
