Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Poor kid tutors rich kid in Korea, family hjinx ensue. Stars the same guy who played the titular A TAXI DRIVER which we really liked.
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I like this a whole lot. Comedy turning into a tragedy was super-effective. What could have been a parody of rich Koreans becomes surprisingly sympathetic even though we are following the poor family who we both root for and against. Complex, detailed. Best picture of the year as far as I'm concerned.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2020 Author Posted February 3, 2020 Yeah we liked it a lot too. It was interesting how it also told the story of how poor people turning the tables on the rich really affected other poor people.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 LOVE his other stuff that I've seen (The Host, Snowpiercer). As it's non-stream, still haven't managed to see this one.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 just saw it on VOD. It's really good, but in the comedy-turns-to-tragedy genre this year, i still prefer JOJO.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 Like, everyone keeps talking to me about this movie. I guess I should see it.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2020 Author Posted February 11, 2020 We're on a regular Korean film kick, letting the streamer AI tell us which one to next watch. Last weekend we checked out EXIT, a sweethearted action film that was only okay (poison gas attack makes loser guy perform acts of urban rooftop heroism, hijinx ensue).
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 JCL, can you tell me what streaming service you use for these movies? Feel free to message me if you prefer.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2020 Author Posted February 11, 2020 ammyzon prime has lots of em. We had to pay to rent Parasite. I believe there is a Korean channel available on the Amazon box we have
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 So, so good. Without having seen 1917, I'll go ahead and say they made the right choice here. We've seen two of his previous shebangs-- the previously mentioned OKJA and SNOWPIERCER-- on Netflix.
