G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 MLB having MFYs and White Sox play at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Ia., next season. Regular-season game a la Williamsport.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Maybe they'll go into a cornfield and disappear.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 It's not on the actual movie site. It's an 8000 seat baseball stadium built nearby.Yankees-White Sox to Play Regular Season MLB Game at ‘Field of Dreams' Site in 2020https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/yankees-white-sox-play-regular-131524840.html?.tsrc=fauxdalhttps://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/yankees-white-sox-play-regular-131524840.html?.tsrc=fauxdalI was lucky enough to visit the place in 1992, before it got too crassly commercialized. This is just the culmination of that. Most of the cornfield will be flattened by an army of steamrollers.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I don't know if it's going to be an annual game, but they could have the White Sox play the Reds, and so re-stage the 1919 World Series. But it's curious and not a little hypocritical for MLB to market a game that pays tribute to a film and book that openly lobbied for the reinstatement of Joe Jackson and indicted the league offices for their exploitative and two-faced practices, when they still won't reconsider Jackson's case and still run the game on a plantation model.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 An A's-Red Sox game at Fenway would also pay homage to the film.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Yankees will play anywhere if you pay them enough.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I've been to the movie site -- posing in a glorious FAFIF shirt -- and it's pretty awesome. Then again, unlike Jerry Blevins, I love the movie. We checked out some of the shooting locations in Galena, Ill., too!Love that MLB is trying fun things like this.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 they're missing out on the awesomeness of having the cornfield be the actual outfield wall. i'd even watch a yankee game to see that!
