Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Wow, 8th best? That's not exactly, umm, something to be real proud of.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Overall, haven't the Mets had the best overall pitching in at least the NLif not MLB since the all-star break?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 I wouldn't have complained had they found a way to get something for Frazier; get a CFer who could hit; and add a MLB bullpen arm to replace the Bashlor-Rhame show, but wouldn't it be amazin were the Mets to learn that constantly chasing the hot closer of the moment is a fool errand in and of itself, and that, getting a new guy to protect leads will never take away the leads they already lost.Offense is the best bullpen!

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Yeah, Met pitchers have Vultured themselves to the top of the heap in the second half. The key seems to be a very un-2019-ish capacity for keeping the ball in the park. I can only guess how sustainable that may be.MLB PITCHING, SECOND HALF[th]Rk[/th][th]Team[/th][th]W[/th][th]L[/th][th]W-L%[/th][th]ERA[/th][th]G[/th][th]GS[/th][th]GF[/th][th]CG[/th][th]SHO[/th][th]SV[/th][th]IP[/th][th]H[/th][th]R[/th][th]ER[/th][th]HR[/th][th]BB[/th][th]IBB[/th][th]SO[/th][th]HBP[/th][th]BK[/th][th]BF[/th][th]WHIP[/th][th]SO9[/th][th]SO/W[/th]1=#FF8000]SHaMs115.6882.75731615115154.0127504714515155806291.1569.13.042CLE126.6672.92721817116166.2139595421471175816741.1169.53.723HOU126.6673.06741818005161.2127675520500199316661.09511.13.984SFG135.7223.58861818005178.2159737125474190907281.1539.64.045CHC97.5633.65791616005145.11316159204021331506101.1778.23.336LAD107.5883.75731717004151.1136786319535169816511.24910.13.197STL135.7224.007518171110162.01557272176341561316931.3468.72.488WSN108.5564.21781818004158.1154777421604166516811.3529.42.779OAK116.6474.30741717004152.2149747322542118606501.3307.02.1910MIN98.5294.32681717004152.0164877323450148706591.3758.83.2911SDP512.2944.37701717001150.1148777318613160306581.3909.62.6212LAA117.6114.39821818004168.0167908219670163707231.3938.72.4313TOR810.4444.42811818002161.0179827916622154707141.4978.62.4814ARI89.4714.42711717005148.2135797327453159206181.2119.63.5315KCR108.5564.47751817119165.0180938221535151907231.4128.22.8516MIA89.4714.53681717001149.0124787524642160906301.2629.72.5017PHI97.5634.59751616003151.01438777256561561206601.3779.32.4018TBR99.5004.78861818007162.0158888628502176136871.2849.83.5219MIL98.5294.90751717004154.1142928426613165506591.3159.62.7020ATL98.5295.10731717004150.0157908526725150506681.5279.02.0821BOS108.5565.11841818003162.016810292276731831007211.45110.22.7322CHW414.2225.13731817101158.0165989028530137706831.3807.82.5823PIT315.1675.25751818001156.015310791346341481006881.3858.52.3524SEA88.5005.27631615113140.0144878231340123405921.2717.93.6225CIN810.4445.40781818006158.11691069530601166516871.4469.42.7726BAL99.5005.55771818005165.1167111102376121451027271.3797.92.3827NYY108.5565.60721818004159.01801059937521169407041.4599.63.2528DET315.1675.85821818000160.017711010425553160607031.4509.02.9129TEX512.2946.07701717001148.1162108100335921571006681.4909.52.6630COL613.3166.87781919003165.020013212632641138717481.6007.52.16TOT262262.5004.622260524518651194714.0465926202418746167875472921512203021.3449.02.82

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Brodie had two players in mind from STL for Wheeler and the Cardinals wouldn't do it. From The Athletic:[bLOCKQUOTE]But the New York Mets wanted a major league return and the Cardinals didn't think dealing [Harrison] Bader or [Tyler] O'Neill, both under team control for at least another five seasons, was worth about a dozen Wheeler starts plus, if they make it, what he'd give them in the playoffs. Wheeler, like Bumgarner, is a free agent in November if their current teams don't extend their contracts before then.Bader, meanwhile, struggled so badly when he was handed the Cardinals' starting center field job, he was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.Amazingly, Bader still rates above replacement level, per FanGraphs, despite a .195 batting average and .339 slugging percentage, primarily because he has played elite defense and is a premium baserunner. O'Neill, too, has his warts, primarily a 37.1-percent strikeout rate in 275 big league plate appearances. He also has 14 home runs and 10 doubles in those plate appearances, good for a .469 slugging percentage. He plays good defense and is among the Cardinals' fastest two or three players despite being built like his father, a Mr. Olympia contestant.[/bLOCKQUOTE]
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Bader is one of those 'fun to watch' guys (think young Eric Byrnes) but that helps to cover up that he's not so good sometimes.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I think of an athletic, fun-to-watch outfielder, who is nonetheless not so good, I think of Tsuyoshi Shinjo.
