Guest 41Forever Guests Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 And Darryl Strawberry, today you are only tied for the Mets rookie home run record.Way to go Polar Bear Pete!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Pete halfway to Aaron Judge's MLB record, and wouldn't that be a fine one to dislodge?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Cody Bellinger's NL rookie record of 39 is surely in Pete's sights.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 What Alonso does with one swing, McNeil does with several. That slap hit the other way down the line was positively baseball porn.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Yup. And it's the old type of porn, from when they cared about things like character and atmosphere.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Todd Frazier, meanwhilst, for what I think is the second time this season, made a pissy face, thinking that he got too far under a pitch, and then sudenly realized he had hit a homer.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 If the Mets keep this up, someone's getting beaned.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 If a Cubs pitcher beans someone, Phil Regan is gonna kick somebody's ass.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Give Frazier and Ramos a finely calibrated time machine and they too could tie Darryl's rookie record.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 It'll be shades of Bill Hands, 50th anniversary coming up and all.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I assume the second-base ump will get a call right eventually.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Is there some moronic unwritten rule of baseball that you can't ask for a replay review when you're up by nine runs late in the game?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I imagine no, but there might be someone who projects such a rule as an extension of other running-up-the-score unwritten rules. And hey, as you said, a Met might be fixin' to get drilled anyhow. I can see a grumpy Cub rationalizing that the appeal was over-the top.I'm all for the appeal, but I agree with Gary that the decision should be made on the field.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 Scoring every inning while the other team can't sounds fun!
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I'm not sure that "running up the score " is even a thing in baseball. It makes sense in football when, for example, the team with an insurmountable lead late in the game starts making 50 yard pass attempts. But in baseball? What is the team with the big lead supposed to do? Swing softly? Pull a Marv Throneberry and miss the bases after hitting the ball over the wall?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Caratini just set a land speed record for a pitcher heading from the mound to the dugout.
