A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Sadly the Mets finished third for National League East team of the month.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 Jeff McNeil wins the Mets Heart and Hustle Award. It honors active players who "demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and traditions of the game". It is voted on by MLB alumni. Every team gets one and then an overall winner is announced after the season.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2019 Author Posted August 3, 2019 Seth Lugo is NL Reliever of the Month for July, yet another award that apparently exists.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 Unbelievable but congrats to Seth!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2019 Posted August 3, 2019 I fully expected to open this thread and see that Jacob deGrom had won Pitcher of the Month. He's been awesome. He's been fully Jacobian.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Marcus Stroman's barehanded pickup and assist from Saturday is MLB Play of the Week, another heretofore well-hidden honor. It oughta be dubbed the VOFO for Ventura Ordoñez Fonzie Olerud, but whatever.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Stroman's play was terrific, but McNeil's play was pioneering.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2019 Author Posted August 26, 2019 J.D. Davis's over-the-shoulder catch is the MLB Play of the Week.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2019 Author Posted September 30, 2019 You're not going to believe this, but Pete Alonso is National League Rookie of the Month for September. He won three of the six such awards in 2019.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I guess that, if Schaefer gave out a Mets Rookie of the Month Award, Alonso would have had a clean sweep.fWAR by Mets Rookies in 20191) Peter Alonso: 4.82) Luis Guillorme: 0.23) Chris Mazza: 0.14) Drew Gagnon: 0.15) Brooks Pounders: 0.06) Daniel Zamora: -0.17) Ryan O'Rourke: -0.18) Sam Haggerty: -0.19) Stephen Nogosek: -0.110) Walker Lockett: -0.111) Jacob Rhame: -0.212) Tim Peterson: -0.213) Tomas Nido: -0.514) Tyler Bashlor: -0.6Put another way, of all the fWAR put up by Mets rookies, 150% of it belonged to Pete Alonso.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Waitwaitwait. You're telling me Walker Lockett didn't have a single chart-topping month this season?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 Pete Alonso is Baseball America's unanimous 2019 Rookie of the Year.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Do we know the dates yet when the Rookie-of-the-Year and Cy Young winners will be announced? First week in November, I assume? Right when the Tabloid Cover Derby is getting underway.

Are they new or am I going senile (or both)? How do they differ from Gold Gloves? DO they differ from Gold Gloves?Gold Gloves have long been a Rawlings thing, are these just an extra cash grab?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 The Wilson Award is the defensive version of The Cy Young Award or The Hank Aaron Award. It's for the most valuable defensive player. There are also lesser Wilson Awards for each position. While they endeavor to honor the same thing the Rawlings Gold Gloves are trying to honor, they are different in that they are decided by sabermetric formulae, whilst the GGs are voted on by players. Its pretty weird to see two rival glove companies each get sponsor a league-recognized award that is meant to honor the same thing. They originally selected one guy per league as defensive player of the year, but then they shrunk it to one guy, which is unusual, in that awards typically proliferate, rather than anti-liferate, going from one overall winner to one in each league.Winners2012 (AL): =#0000FF]Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), OF2012 (NL): =#0000FF]Michael Bourn (Atlanta Braves), OF2013 (AL): =#0000FF]Dustin Pedroia (Boston Red Sox), 2B2013 (NL): =#0000FF]Gerardo Parra (Arizona Diamondbacks), OF2014: =#0000FF]Jason Heyward (Atlanta Braves), RF2015: =#0000FF]Andrelton Simmons (Atlanta Braves), SS2016: =#0000FF]Mookie Betts (Boston Red Sox), RF2017:=#0000FF] Byron Buxton (Minnesota Twins), CF2018: =#0000FF]Matt Chapman (Oakland Athletics), 3BBraves and Sawx clearly are the standout teams so far. Interesting that a catcher has never won it.
