Guest 41Forever Guests Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Multiple reports that the Mets will unveil a Seaver statue this summer, and that it's been in the works for a while. Not a reaction to the devastating news this week. Might be the "something special" Jeff was referring to in his statement.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Should have been there when the ballpark opened. Better late than never, I guess.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Oh, I'm sure the Mets'll fuck this up the same way the Mets fuck up everything else. They'll probably commission the same people who make the bobbleheads to make tbe Seaver statue, all to save twenty five dollars and when it's all done, we'll have a Seaver statue that looks more like Don Knotts than like Tom Seaver.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 They'll make him a lefty
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 They'll probably commission the artist who sculpted this statue of Lucille Ball:http://mediad.publicbroadcasting.net/p/wbfo/files/styles/medium/public/201504/lucille_ball_statue_0.jpg>The good news is that they realized their mistake (which should have happened before the dedication of the statue) and replaced it with this:https://static01.nyt.com/images/2016/08/10/us/10xp-lucille1/10xp-lucille1-articleLarge.jpg?quality=75&auto=webp&disable=upscale>
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Don Knotts haha...I remember that first Lucy statue. Scary bad.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 I think the Mets will find out where that original Lucy statue is warehoused, buy it for $100, put a Mets cap on the head and a 41 on the back and say that it's Tom Seaver.

Classic Seaver, knee in the dirt.I have one of these in my office. Edited March 9, 2019 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 It's really the only choice, though hopefully a better rendering than that one.Mounting it on a real dirt mound with a giant pitching rubber would be cool.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Yeah, it pretty much has to be something like this:https://imagesvc.timeincapp.com/v3/fan/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcalltothepen.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fgetty-images%2F2016%2F04%2F51494563.jpeg&c=sc&w=850&h=560>
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 That original Lucy statue was later donated to the Nurse Ratched HoF and MuseumI say that as long as the Seaver monument doesn't have a 'Gold's Mustard' or some other such nonsense on its base, it'll wind up being both a relief and a surprise.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 Nancy Seaver has been flat out pissed that Tom didn't get a statue in 2009
