A member of the battalion of minor league righty relievers collected in exchange for the willing taking of expiring major league contracts once the 2017 season had gone to where all bad Met seasons go. Jamie, who I don't believe entered games to Ray Parker, Jr., was the first of the Red Sox bounty for Addison Reed to show you don't get much for Addison Reed. Made his debut in the same sad day-night doubleheader of September 2, 2017, in Houston. The city was coping with an awful hurricane (Harvey). Our starter was shelled in the opener (Harvey). Wilmer Flores bonked himself in the nose with a batted ball (his own). Two more losses added to a pile that would grow and grow through October 1. Into this malaise ambled Callahan, a blank page. When his debut was done, he owned a 13.50 ERA, all his.



Pitched better the rest of the way. Had shoulder surgery in 2018. Is a Giant now. Jamie, we hardly knew ye.

If you don't remember what Jamie Callahan looks like, I took this picture in early March, 2018 as Jason and I wandered around the ballpark in West Palm Beach as the Mets and Astros played to a tie.

A babyface who would try the Ricky Shroeder technique at looking more malignant, rocking some chin fuzz and scowling.



It only made him look more baby-faced.



With Gerson Bautista heading to Seattle as part of the Canó trade, Stephen Nogosek will be the only remaining member of the fraternity of Red Sox pitchers sent down the Interstate as part of the Addison Reed package. No-Go, who was an AFL player this fall, will be heading to camp trying to escape St. Lucie and stick with Bingo.

This reminds me of Sid Caesar showing off his improbably long tongue --- I don't recall if Caesar actually had a long tongue or if it was just a prop for a sketch he was rehearsing --- but the punchline to this is Milton Berle cracking everybody up with the line: "with a tongue like that, you don't need a cock."



Oh yeah, the tongue. Five days into this thread and still, nothing about Callahan's freaky tongue from any of youse -- which is the only thing I remember about him.
