G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 DeGrom pitches in daylight at home. If that's not worth something, I don't know what is.Robert Stephenson makes his season debut for Cincinnati. Let's make it a Vargas one for him.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 Here's hoping deGrom will find a treasure trove of runs and won't be left on an island.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I want to make a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde reference, but I can't think of one that would be appropriate. I mean, I'm not sure if I'd rather see deGrom pitch as Henry Jekyll or as Edward Hyde.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 If nothing else from this year, I'll remember the beauty inherent in Jacob deGrom sacking up on a 2-strike and just destroying a guy with high heat in a moment of crisis. He is having a year.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I was thinking at some point this year, the Mets are going to score 18 runs for deGrom in one game, and then act like everything is ok. Maybe today will be that day.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 In honor of it being Eight Eight Eighteen, today's game is being carried by ESPN8 - aka: 'The Ocho'
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 McNeil looks to be a quick 'tagger' (small sample size warning), a guy who'll slap it down quickly and maybe steal an extra out here or there. The throw wasn't going to get Hamilton on his steal of 2nd but McNeil made it close and that's not the only one I've seen since his call-up.I don't recall a NYM middle infielder like that recently -- certainly not Murphy, nor Flores, and not particularly Asdrubal either -- and maybe not since Ordonez who I swore would steal an out per week in his day just from sleight of hand (prolly an exaggeration but you get the idea).
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 wow, deGrom's got a 2-run lead and bases are loaded for Rosario
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 If Rosario is bringing home a run, even on a sacrifice fly, it's a good day.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Y'know, it's nice to get two extra runs and all. But, geez, it was 2nd & 3rd with no one out and yet they managed to squeeze out those two runs via: K, IBB, nonI-BB, Sac Fly, IF Pop-upiow: no hits and only [u:150ozsop]one[/u:150ozsop] ball left the infieldI mean would it kill ya to bust out a big inning every now and then? And even the Sac Fly was only semi-deep and a better RF arm maybe doesn't score that 2nd run at all. We're getting to be the old cliche where an offensive rally is described as having a 3-0 count. And in this case it was a 3-0 count to the pitcher.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I never would have guessed the answer to Gary's "who's the last pitcher to get a hit of deGrom"?For those not watching I'll give a little time to think it over.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 willllmerrrr. Watch this lead to a 6-run rally
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Pinch-hitting for deGromatic after 100 pitches because Mickey is gonna Mickey.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I like how Wilmer's blazing speed forces the defense to make errors.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 Hot day, stressful innings. But god help the relievers who blow this one.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 G-Fafif wrote:Hot day, stressful innings. But god help the relievers who blow this one.Anthony Young, we call on you now.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 OK, let's put it to bed, Amed.Don't need a grand slam, just anything besides an out. You can do it.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 The biggest remaining question for the Mets this year is "when deGrom accepts his Cy Young award, will he also be handed the NL MVP?"

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Pile it high, Mets.Normally, you don't want to waste your best reliever with an eight-run lead, but let's send our best reliever out there.Who's our best reliever?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 YAY! The Mets proved they can take a series! If it's best two of three! If they are facing the equally bottom-dwelling Reds! And they have their best two pitchers going! And the Reds sit Votto two games out of three!Baby steps!!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 Scored EIGHT.Won by EIGHT.Win for number forty EIGHT.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 And, the SHaMs are now (at least temporarily) 18 games under ,500!
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Would just like to draw your attention to this offensive bit of seasonal creep
