Do or die for Vargas tonight.

I don't mean die literally, but if he doesn't provide a chance to be competitive in the game tonight he's got to be shopping for custodial supplies.

I also think it's really important for the good guys to make hay in this series.

I'm surprised that Wednesday's game is at night. The Mets are in MIL on Thursday night which isn't across the country but it's not next door.

I think the new rules say that a day get-away game is required if traveling two time zones but not when it's just one (and Miami has Thursday off) so that means it's up to the home team
and Fred & Jeff do like their night games on $NY.

Is Vargas hitting eighth so that they can pinch hit for him and get him out of the game a little earlier?

It won't even be Vargas's spot in the lineup by the time it comes up, it'll be Lugo or Gsellman or whoever relieves him after he gives up six runs in the first.

Put that a little bigger since you must have missed it.

The only two players on the Marlins' roster with ABs against Vargas:

Cameron Maybin (4 singles in 6 AB)
Starlin Castro (3 hits in 8 AB, plus two walks), including 2-4 with two doubles last season

Thanks. Let me know if you need any of these resized. Happy to do it.

It's Monday, the weekend quest to avoid .500 (or worse) has
entered weekday mode.

glad you answered because I was about to rip some ass but I still don't get the thread title including "Weekday" Just spent two days with a toddler.

When all three 1st inning Marlins batters put the ball in play, they all did so off balance -- so that's a good sign that Vargas is putting the right pitches in the right place.
And, if nothing else, that quite a change after seeing so many batters just dig in and tee off on his stuff over his first couple (brief) outings.

And now we're at 5 off-balance swings plus 4 punch-outs (three looking IIRC) thru three perfect innings.
It's like a completely different human out there who just happens to look like the previous one.

Easy to look good against Jeter's AAA squad

Rosario breaks for second and Cbrera rips it down the line for a double. Rosarion scores from 1st aided by Marlins RF missing the cut of.

With that strikeout, Vargas' ERA down to 10.06.

If he can get the last out here, he'll be out of the two-digits-to-the-left-of-the-decimal range.

Vargas pulled from the game with the single-digit-ish ERA and Evans gets his first knock of the season hitting for him.

I don't know what Rosario's walkup music is, but it sounds like an autotuned dancefloor remake of The Marshall Tucker Band's "Heard It in a Love Song."

Evans with a nice single through the hole on the left side.
