Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Any relation?Ronald Acuna, Mets minor leaguer
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Yup. Much was made during last night's broadcast that Reyes played with Acuña senior.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Oops! I watched parts of the game yesterday but must have missed the part when they discussed that. Or else I wasn't listening too closely. I do like Gary, Keith, and Ron but a lot of times I find that I'm tuning them out.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 At first I assumed he was just part of the seemingly growing segment of pro athletes (not just baseball) who use the Junior in their names even when it isn't necessary to distinguish themselves from the name their fathers made in the sport. Obviously it was needed for Ken Griffey Jr but not so much for Melvin (B.J.) Upton Jr., current BoSox OF Jackie Bradley Jr., or a scattering of others. But I guess the current Acuna feels he's honoring his dad who had a career in baseball even if never in the major leagues. If Sr. did have a long career they could both be playing at the same time seeing as how he's still just 38 y/o and only 18-1/2 years older than his son (19-1/2 for the Griffeys).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 There's the hit we needed yesterday, Rosario.Build on that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 33 pitches for deGrom thru 3 (not to mention a one-hitter)I think Wheeler was at 31/1 in his last start. He got better from there, but that opening inning put him in such a hole to start with.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Céspedes hit the ball so hard up the middle that I flinched.Shortstop was positioned perfectly, but he flinched too. It was so straight it probably knuckled a bit.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Mercy me. deGrom is the key to the season.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Hopefully it's nothing big, I'm sure the team will lettuce know by Saturday morning.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Ack! Why is deGrom out?? Something happen?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Gary and crew thinking maybe a tweaked back. He made a face after the last Braves hit.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Left with a twinge, a grimace, a yikes...
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Dutch? Wha happen? A swing thing?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 DeGrom going down the tunnel with his glove on his head filled me with dread.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Hyperextended right elbow. As Gary said, "Not good".
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Of course none of these rotation problems are going to matter if we keep getting shut out through the first 6-7 innings night after night.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 A double to the opposing pitcher with 2 outs? Followed by a HR? You can hear a pin drop at Citi.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Time to stretch...[youtube:ltwvw6bx]iUODdPpnxcA[/youtube:ltwvw6bx]
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Author Posted May 3, 2018 Please scratch me off the IGT list.Yikes!Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 At the moment I don't hold out much hope for scoring 7 runs over the next week much less in the next two innings.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Quickly turning into a rout... 7-sniffle after 8 1/2.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Mets shut out for the first time this season. Goodbye first place, we hardlyknew ya. Gay matinee tomorrow.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Author Posted May 3, 2018 The last time I saw a pitcher named Newcomb(e) win a game, he was wearing a Brooklyn uniform.Sigh.Later
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Hoping our season didn't go down the toilet night
