Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 The draft was over but the Mets couldn't stop. They have signed RHP Andrew Ryan out of UMass-Lowell aka Jack Leathersich U, as a free agent.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 I had forgotten about this guy:Oregon State pitcher Luke Heimlich goes undrafted for second straight yearWell, you either believe his retroactive claim of innocence or you don't. I have no way of knowing. But if you believe he did it, I don't care how apologetic he is now.Royals GM Dayton Moore openly considering signing Heimlich.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 I don't understand the final line of this article:Perhaps his argument – that much of his family, friends and coaches stand behind him; that he has paid his debt; and that he is in fact innocent – will convince an organization to take on the complications of signing him. What debt? If he was innocent, he had no debt to pay. And legal advice that has you pleading guilty to such a charge when you're innocent is malpractice. And i don't believe it for a second. If i was innocent and facing such a charge, nothing on earth could make me plead guilty. The only way you do is if they have overwhelming evidence of the charge, or its a lesser charge than one you think they could convict you of. And child molestation has one of the highest rates of recidivism of any crime. There is just no rationale for giving a convicted child molester a job in MLB.

He was in New York for an introductory press conference/ photo ops.Later

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 So, it looks like a mostly successful draft year so far. The vast majority of non-signees came from the butt end of the draft, and while many or most of the signings seemed to offer the players below-slot $$, those players were also drafted lower than MLB had them ranked, for whatever either of those are worth. Also, there are a lot of guys off to encouragingly blistering starts, and those who are misfiring at the start if their careers are mostly, again, guys from the back end.If you give the Mets 40 points for signing a first-rounder and one point for signing a 40th-rounder, they scored 755 out of 820 potential signing points, or 92.07%.RDPICKRANKPLAYERSCHOOLPOSB/TCLASSHTWTDOBAGESIGNEDSIGNING
