Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 * In those of those 'first time in MLB ever' deals which baseball somehow doesn't seem to run out of despite its near 150 year history, the StL/Milw game Tuesday night was the first to begin the game withback-to-back HRs and to end the game with back-to-back HRs.Dexter Fowler and Tommy Pham led off the top of the 1st by hitting 2 of the game's first three pitches out of the park. But then, down by one in the home 9th, Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun hit one-out HRs on consecutive pitches for a Brewers walk-off win.* Clayton Kershaw now 0-2 to start the year after finishing ST with a 0.00 ERA.Now he's given up all of 2 runs over 12 innings in 2 starts so I think it's probably a bit too early for the Dodgers to hit the panic button.* Guess who heard some boo-birds after going 0-5 w/5 Ks in his home opener? Give you a clue, his name rhymes with Biandarlo MantonQuick word on 'TWiB Notes': not to try and put too many rules on this, but I envision this as sort of a replacement for O-o-T-S which was overdone if used everyday but would also go weeks between appearances. So hopefully we can use this at least on a weekly basis (Monday thru Sunday) as a place to comment on in-game goings-on elsewhere in the league.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 That Kershaw clearly suxxx BHMC.OoTS so far today... ATL beating down Max and the Nats 3-nil in the 2nd. Never too early to scoreboard watch.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2018 Author Posted April 7, 2018 (edited) The umps fucked-up a call in the Yanx/O's game (in favor of guess who?)In a run-down, Stanton & Sanchez both wound up on 3rd base. Since Stanton was the one going back towards the base it was still "his" base. So when the O's catcher tagged Sanchez (standing on the base) and then Stanton (running past it) it should have been a DP. Only Stanton was ruled out, Sanchez was permitted to stay on 3rd. When Michael Kay read the rule it read like an exact description of this very play with no ambiguity at all, and then some 'rules expert' YES has on call admitted it should be a DP too.Buck (who might be a stuffy PITA at times but he knows the rule book as well as anyone) argued long and loud but couldn't get them to turn. It doesn't appear that Baltimore protested but that's not clear. Most protests fail but this one seemed tailor made for one: a clear misapplication of a rule No additional runs scored after that play but it forced the O's pitcher to pitch to one extra batter in order to get out of the inning (6th) and the Yanx have just now tied the game at 3 in bottom 8 (Gregorius HR) Edited April 7, 2018 by Guest

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 Bottom of the 11th, 2 outs, Gregorious on 3rd tries to score on a wild pitch; Os catcher Joseph barehands the carom and backhands a scoober to P Givens who catches it just as his thigh blocks home plate. Didi tried to go in headfirst and was stopped dead. But as it played out in real time you figured it was a 1 in 100 shot the game doesn't end right there.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 This MFY game is in the 14th inning now
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 MFYs in a world of trouble. CC, Drury, Sanchez all left with injuries. Pedro Alvarez just hit a 14th inning grand slam
